Learning how the helicopter functions in Battlefield 6 can be quite tricky. This guide will break down how you can effectively handle a helicopter, from maneuvering it to mastering its offensive capabilities.

Controls

It’s essential to understand how a helicopter's basic manoeuverability works before heading into combat.

Intuitively, some people prefer adjusting the inverse controls; keeping them as is makes it seem more realistic, where moving the controls down makes the nose pitch up, and moving the controls up makes the nose pitch down.

But it’s understandable how some people may find this not instinctive, and if it’s something that you’re not used to, it’s okay to change it according to your preference.

Once that’s adjusted, your next step is to get used to throttle input management; instead of directly affecting speed, your throttle will determine your altitude.

Increasing or output will make your helicopter fly higher, whilst decreasing it will lower your altitude. It’s important to practice it as throttle adjustments are constantly needed whenever you’re in combat and performing complex maneuvers.

Nose Pitch

Adjusting the helicopter's nose during flight is probably the most important aspect that will determine your direction, speed, and stability. Tilting the nose down will make the helicopter move forward, while pushing it back up or slowing it down, and eventually make it move backward.

A common misconception that a lot of people think is that pointing the nose up will cause the helicopter to rise, but that will just reduce its speed and make it go backward.

To maintain a stable balance of moving forward, you’ll need to lightly press the throttle and nose down gently.

Whenever you’re moving quickly, tilting the nose further down can cause a loss an altitude, and this may lead you to crash. To avoid this, you’ll want to add more throttle, and if you’re going really fast, consider slightly pitching the nose up and finding a steady balance.

Avoid Crashes

Crashes can occur when you’re over-tilting the nose or not being cautious with the throttle inputs.

Maintaining situational awareness is also important, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the environment to prevent collisions with terrain.

Gunner Seat

One of the best perks about flying a helicopter is switching between the pilot and the gunner seat. You have access to powerful weapons that are capable of eliminating a lot of clusters of enemies very quickly.

It will leave the helicopter armed for a few seconds and will cause a slow descent, but it’s definitely worth the risk.

The best strategy for air combat is to lock onto an enemy aircraft and wait for them to apply their flares before firing; they will then be vulnerable.

You must also learn how to use a flare carefully, as if time poorly, it can be catastrophic. The flare should only be used when a missile warning indicator flashes red.

Whenever you’re hit, you can self-repair by pressing on the right side of the D pad for controllers, which will restore a small portion of your health.

Helicopters are very rewarding to master, and understanding the basics of throttle nose positioning and weapon management will enhance your combat experience.
