God of War Ragnarök | Garden of the Dead Quest Guide

In God of War Ragnarök, the Garden of the Dead favor is one of several optional quests you’ll encounter while exploring Vanaheim. It features three perspective-based puzzles and is also home to some hidden treasures that you won’t want to pass up.

You’ll find this favor in Noatun’s Garden, which is located in Vanaheim. To reach it, take your boat along the River Delta. Keep going until you sail under a collapsed bridge. Look left, and you’ll spot a beach—this is where you’ll begin.

How To Start Garden of the Dead Quest

To kick off the Garden of the Dead quest, you’ll first need to deal with a group of enemies. Once the area is clear and the Gradungrs are defeated, head toward the large tree in the garden’s center. Here, you’ll meet a spirit seeking help to move on. Her request is simple: restore her garden by burning three poisonous plants.

Location of the First Poisonous Plant

The first plant is on your left, facing away from the water. Head to the left side of the plant and locate the explosive jar hidden behind a stone wall. Hit the jar to ignite it and destroy the plant.

Location of the Second Poisonous Plant

The second plant is to the right of the first one. Climb up the nearby building, and from there, you’ll have a clear view of the chain holding the explosive jar. Use your axe to break the chain and drop the jar to set this plant on fire.

Location of the Third Poisonous Plant

The third plant is behind the spirit. Look for an explosive jar inside the structure directly behind her. From the front of the spirit, check the left side for a gap in the stone wall. Once you spot the jar, hit it to set the last plant on fire. Now, all you have to do is speak to the spirit again to complete this part of the quest.

Noatun’s Garden Treasures

Once the water is behind you, turn to the left corner of the garden to find a treasure map. You’ll also notice a locked gate with a Legendary Chest inside. To access it, head back to your boat and row under the broken bridge. Stick to the left and look for a tunnel formed by tree roots. Dock your boat there and follow the path to reach the bridge.

Jump over the gap, open the Legendary Chest, and then have your companion create a chain of sigil arrows from the stone wall near the bridge to the vines. Ignite the closest sigil to trigger a chain reaction and burn the vines. With the vines gone, throw your axe at the chain to break it. Cross the bridge again, and you’ll find a rope that takes you back to Noatun’s Garden.

Back in the garden, the gate to the Legendary Chest will now be unlocked. Clear out the Nightmares that appear, and the treasure is yours. Near the first poisonous plant’s location, you’ll find a sealed gate. Use your axe to smash it open, revealing another chest inside.

Next to that gate, there’s a Lore Tablet. On the roof of the building where you destroyed the second plant’s chain, you’ll find another Lore Tablet. You can also drop down into the building for an additional chest. Before you leave, check the right corner of the garden for a Family Crest, one of the artifacts from Vanaheim. With that, you should have collected all the treasures available in this quest.
