Insomniac Might Include Several Marvel's Spider-Man 3 DLC

What led to Insomniac pulling the plug on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 post-launch content?

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was released in October 2023, and Insomniac Games produced a game that surpassed all expectations. It had everything Spider-Man fans could have hoped for, including a playable Venom, a map almost twice as large as the original, and a partnership between Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

The gameplay was stunning, but there were also hints of far more ambitious things to come. Future storylines were hinted at in the game, especially with Cletus Kasady, who appeared to be ready to turn into Carnage. Following the success of Spider-Man PS4's expansions, fans went crazy with conjecture and eagerly awaited the DLC, which appeared imminent.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3, Story DLCs

However, Insomniac revealed the shocking news that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC would not be released just as fans were about to plunge into fresh material. We were left wondering why the fantasy of a Carnage plot with new antagonists was snuffed out. How did the DLC turn out? Numerous hints suggested that DLC was being developed.

Fans were clamoring for new storylines after the unplanned dev menu revelation revealed the whole Beetle villain narrative. It was obvious that Insomniac would use the same DLC route as the original Spider-Man game. However, the studio's confirmation that there would be no more content left fans perplexed. What went wrong then?

Was Development Affected by the Hack? A significant hack that Insomniac encountered more than a year ago is the subject of one theory. A breach of this kind might have caused progress to be delayed or diverted attention to other projects. The extent to which this affected Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is tough to determine, although it's likely that the breach contributed to the decision to disregard DLC.

Turning Attention from DLC to Larger Projects. An additional choice is that Insomniac chose to forego DLC in favor of something more meaningful after first planning it. A DLC might have felt excessively limiting because Marvel's Spider-Man 2 established so many narratives. Carnage is too great of a character, for instance, to be limited to a few hours of gaming.

Rather, Insomniac might have realized that these arcs could be used in upcoming projects to provide a more extensive and engaging experience. Another standalone Venom Game? A further intriguing concept that arises from this is that Carnage might be maintained for a standalone Venom game. As legendary figures, Venom and Carnage are deserving of more than a fleeting DLC presence. Fans would be excited to play a dedicated Venom game, which would give them the recognition they merit.

Additionally, it would allow Insomniac to delve deeper into these characters than DLC could. The dev menu also hinted at the Beetle plotline. It's possible that this storyline was meant to concentrate on Miles Morales while Peter took a vacation. Given that he has had his own standalone game, it wouldn't be shocking if Insomniac decided to continue examining Miles in a more personal, smaller-scale narrative.

Marvel's Spider-Man 3, Silk, DLC, Female Character, Female Spider

That may now be set aside for a Miles Morales sequel or another project with a similar purpose. It is highly unlikely that Carnage could make an appearance in Marvel's Spider-Man 3, which has been set up to be the huge trilogy conclusion. It would be challenging to finish up several stories in the game with the addition of yet another significant antagonist. Rather than exposing fresh dangers, the emphasis will probably continue to be on completing Peter and Miles' storylines.

There is a bright side to the unfortunate lack of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC. It might be the best course of action if Insomniac reserves plots like Carnage for a more ambitious project, such as a Venom game. These characters would thrive in a Venom game, which would be a huge delight for fans. It's evident that Insomniac made the choice with future intentions in mind, yet we may never fully comprehend why the Spider-Man 2 DLC was shelved.

The change may have been caused by the prospect of a Venom game with Carnage. If that is the case, it is a decision worth supporting. However, since Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will be a PlayStation 6 launch title, there's still plenty of time to get more updates on what's going to happen with the game and all the possible plot points. With more ventures anticipated, the future of the Spider-Man universe is bright and far from over.
