In this guide, I am going to go over how I managed to defeat Monster Mania Level Five. It’s a challenging level because when you defeat one enemy, they summon more, but I’ll explain how to minimize that as much as possible.
The key to beating this level for me was using some of the later Bros. Moves that you unlock as you progress. If you haven’t unlocked them yet, I recommend advancing a bit more in the game to unlock them. One of the moves, in particular, is great because it’s relatively easy to execute and deals a lot of damage to several enemies. While it doesn’t quite finish them off on its own, combining it with the Vortex move and a specific accessory helped me maximize the damage I dealt.
The accessory I am talking about is the Escalation Belt. You get it by completing a quest on Shipshape Island. During your journey through the side quests, you will eventually gain this fantastic accessory, which will come in handy for this fight. I also equipped the Golden Power Gloves from Lottacoins Island, which cost 25,000 coins. By this point in the game, you should be able to make plenty of money through battles, the Coin Applier, or fishing. If you’re not sure how to catch Treasure Fish, refer to our guides below.
The Golden Power Gloves boost your attack power based on the coins you have. I used them on Mario, but you could also try them on Luigi, especially since the Vortex move is Luigi's. I didn’t have the Bros Booster, which would have made the battle even easier, nor did I experiment with other accessories to increase my power further, but that’s definitely an option.
For example, the Crowd Control Boots could be useful since there are so many enemies in this battle. If you’re struggling, though, there’s an alternative. You can use the Seeldle-ize Plug, which you get from the Whirlpool in Allsand Island. To get this, you’ll need to complete a few quests, like giving items to the voice from the Whirlpool, completing the Quick-Charge Brooch quest, and catching the Treasure Fish. The Seedle-ize Plug turns enemies into Seedles, making them easier to defeat.
Another important factor is multi-hits. By getting multiple hits on all the enemies in Monster Mania Level Five, you can quickly reduce their numbers. Ideally, if you have enough damage in your moves, you could take them out in one go. When possible, try to counter their moves to strip away their protective shields.
The move that helped me finish them off was the Mix-Max Vortex, which you unlock just before facing the final boss. This move lets you deal massive damage to multiple enemies at once. Try to clear all the enemies with shields as quickly as possible by cycling through them during the Mix-Max Vortex; as Mario’s damage increased the longer the battle went on, I was able to deal more damage with each successive attack. Eventually, this strategy helped me wipe them all out.
That’s how I defeated Monster Mania Level Five in Mario and Luigi: Brothership.
