Respawn's Star Wars Jedi 3 In Trouble, Including Titanfall 3 (Project R7)
Respawn's next spin-off, Project R7, a more direct sequel to Titanfall 2, might not see daylight anytime soon.

Even though Titanfall 3 was never officially announced, Respawn's next spin-off, Project R7, was intended to be a more direct sequel to Titanfall 2 and centered in the Titanfall universe. Earlier last month, news circulated that Respawn was working on Titanfall 3, and it might be officially revealed at The Game Awards 2025. Sadly, however, Titanfall fans will be disappointed to hear that EA might have just canceled a new Titanfall game, laying off around 100 employees at Respawn Entertainment.
Battlefield, Mass Effect, Need for Speed, and every EA Sports game are just a few examples of the big studios and franchises that have helped propel Electronic Arts to the forefront of the gaming industry as a publisher. Over the years, EA has expanded tremendously, and it was formerly the only publisher of AAA Star Wars games.
As a firm that has contributed to some of EA's finest Star Wars games and continues to support Titanfall-themed battle royale Apex Legends, Respawn Entertainment is rightfully considered one of EA's most esteemed properties. This layoff not only surprised the fans but also raised concerns over the upcoming projects in which Respawn is involved. This, of course, includes Star Wars: Jedi 3, which is expected to be released in 2027.
Layoffs are sad but typical in the gaming business. They also mean that unique projects made by skilled development teams will never be completed. Both projects that Respawn canceled have remained shrouded in mystery, but one of them was nearly unbelievable in its strangeness. Even worse news emerged after the announcement: one leak had been dead on about Respawn's official Titanfall-themed endeavor.
Despite years of speculation of a third Titanfall game, neither EA nor Respawn has made any official announcements on the series, with the exception of a handful of cryptic social media messages that have acknowledged the property and hinted that it isn't being totally neglected. Although it is not officially a cancellation of Titanfall 3, Respawn's next spin-off, Project R7, was intended to be a more direct sequel to Titanfall 2, set in the Titanfall universe. However, it was formally canceled as part of the most recent layoffs.
Cancellations of Titanfall games are nothing new. It has been said that Respawn canceled a true Titanfall 3 some time ago, although there was another Titanfall spin-off game in development a few years ago. It was similarly shelved. Although Titanfall 3 may be in the works, it is quite unlikely that it will be released for quite some time. For the time being, it appears that Respawn will keep supporting Apex Legends and, alongside, continue developing Star Wars titles.
Instead of investing in Titanfall and another untitled first-person shooter, Electronic Arts plans to prioritize established properties like Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games. Although this isn't entirely unexpected, considering EA's emphasis on live service initiatives, it appears to be a huge mistake for the studio's future to lay off experienced staff and ruin any chance of a beloved franchise's comeback.
