The Dead Thread starts out hard because the game tests your habits right away. Supplies are limited, enemies punish bad aim, and getting lost wastes time and ammo. 

It's easy to make the best early-game plan. Move with purpose, only take what you need, and think of every bullet as having a cost. When you play like you're always one mistake away from losing everything, the opening becomes much easier.

Make a Safe Start Before You Take Risks

In the first areas, the most important thing is to stay stable. Stay away, look around the room before you go in, and don't let props trap you. If a room looks messy, it's not a good place to fight. 

Pull enemies into cleaner lanes where you can strafe and start over. Don't rush into the next room to "make up time" if you get hit early. Take a breath and check your exits again. Panic routes are how runs end.

Like in a survival game, make decisions about your inventory.

The amount of space in your bag is the real difficulty level. Get what will help you get through the next ten minutes, not what you like to have. If you already have enough ammo to finish the next fight, stop putting extra boxes in your slots. 

Leave at least one slot open so you can get an emergency item without losing something important. Choose flexibility if the game lets you choose between carrying one more tool or staying flexible.

Keep your ammo useful and fight clean.

It's not about style in early fights. They are about clean hits and clean exits. Take easy shots, then move. Don't shoot at targets while walking backward into a dead end. 

If an enemy gets too close, break line of sight and move instead of making them fight in a small space. You spend less time healing and are ready for the next room when you keep fights short.

Use the environment to stay alive.

In the early areas, smart positioning is worth more than raw damage. Doorways are dangerous because you can get stuck on the frame. Wide corners are better because you can turn around and start over. 

When you see a long hallway, think of it as a safe runway. If you see a small room, think of it as a trap. You don't have to clean every space in one go. In The Dead Thread, backing off doesn't mean you failed. It is how to stay alive.

Best Mindset for the Early Game

Not always the fastest line is the best route. The line is what keeps you going. Push on until you feel the pressure rise, then take a short loop that lets you reset and loot safely. Stop forcing it if you see that you are getting hurt in the same kind of room. 

Change how you do things. Drag fights into open areas. Get rid of one threat, then check your path again. The early game gets easier when you stop trying to "outplay" danger and start dealing with it.

Quick Fixes That Make Runs Better Right Away

If you keep dying early, one of these fixes will usually work. Carry less junk so you can pick up emergency supplies. Don't fight in a mess. Only take your first shot when you have room to move. 

Don't chase if you miss a few shots. Change the angle and try again. When you keep a steady pace and your bag organized, the hours of opening no longer seem unfair and begin to seem predictable.
