Top V Games of April 2016
Planning to sleep this month, think again
by Grayshadow on Mar 28, 2016
Throughout March many gamers went without sleep nights attempting to collect the best loot in The Division, trying to master every Pokemon in Pokken Tournament, and reliving the glory of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. Now April is almost here and that means an entirely new library of games. Of course I had to make a list of my personal favorites. Here are the top five games coming out this April.
If you watched my Dark Souls II rage quit video you already know, I’m not good at Dark Souls. I’ve always enjoyed taking on challenging objectives in video games, whether it was Dead Space 2 and 3’s hardcore mode or BioShock Infinite’s 1999 mode, but Dark Souls is in an entire differently league. It took a long time but I finally completed the game, and despite all the rage I had fun. Exploration the dense world and facing some of the best animated bosses I’ve seen in a long time, only topped by Xenoblade Chronicles X.
The combat is frustrating and the boss fights were upsetting. This was quickly dispelled while exploring the vast and unknown world, filled with new mysterious locations at every turn. I couldn’t wait to see what I would encounter next, even though the inhabitants were likely to make mincemeat of me. I’m not ecstatic about dying in Dark Souls III, but seeing what this world encompasses will keep me from giving up.
From the studio behind Outland, Super Stardust, and Resogun comes the spiritual successor to Dead Nation Alienation. Play with allies and survive the alien horde or go rogue and kill everyone in your way. Housemarque has developed out some of the best downloadable games today and judging from the trailers Alienation will follow suit. I cannot wait to start blasting.
Teased back in 2013 and delayed twice Quantum Break will finally release this April. Focusing on theoretical physics Remedy Entertainment’s latest franchise will feature two stories, one told from protagonists and the other showing the antagonists. Players will determine how the story will shift based on the decisions made during the start of each episode called “the junction points”.
With a deep story and combat system based on time manipulation it seems that Quantum Break seeks to impress on all fronts. We may have to wait longer for a sequel to Alan Wake’s American Nightmare but until then Quantum Break is a fantastic substitute.
Perhaps the greatest platforming icons during the PlayStation 2 era were Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet & Clank. Unlike the HD rerelease this is a full remastered version with not only a brand new coat of paint but new updates that weren’t available in the original game.
The first game was such a hit it started an entirely new franchise that spanned the PS2 and PS3 lifespan. Those who’ve yet to play the classic game and want to experience one of the greatest action-adventure games should get Ratchet and Clank.
Star Fox has gone into slump since the release of Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Zero seeks to return the franchise back to greatest. Gameplay strongly follows the classic formula of Star Fox for the SNES and Star Fox 64, with players traveling to distant planets and fighting hordes of enemies. New additions include transforming vehicles such as the Arwing turning into a Walker, first seen in the unreleased Star Fox 2 for the SNES, and the Landmaster taking on the form of an aerial vehicle called the Gravmaster.
Many are hoping that Star Fox Zero will not only replicate the amazing aerial combat and diverse level design of Star Fox 64 but build on them. If you haven’t brought a Wii U for Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda; Twilight Princess HD, Super Mario World 3D, Pokken Tournament, or Xenoblade Chronicles X than maybe Star Fox Zero will convince you.
