Today the master leaker Jason Schreier has provided new information about a supposed Harry Potter game that has been in development for a while now. Confirming that the title is real and is being worked on for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Avalanche Studios best known for the Just Cause series and the recent Rage 2 is working on the title instead of the rumored Batman studio Rocksteady games that haven't revealed their hidden project since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight.

According to Schreier, not only is a Harry Potter game in the works but a new Batman game is also being worked on.

Harry Potter is among the highest-profile projects within Warner Bros. Interactive, along with a Batman game that is in the works. Footage from a very early version of the untitled game began circulating in 2018. That video was authentic, but most of the rumors that have come out since are not, said one of the people working on it. Despite a series of challenges—a global pandemic, a fierce backlash against the franchise’s creator, a possible sale of the Warner Bros. video game publishing business—the game remains on track for next year, the person said.

The title will have an open-world Hogwarts and surrounding areas to explore. Which would be huge as past games had players going from 1 stage to the next in a linear fashion. Having the entire castle explorable and the surrounding area means the entire map from the books will finally be established.

JK Rowling won't be as involved with the project according to the report. With the team annoyed with Rowling's backlash with her views on the transgender community. However, considering that she wrote Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and that turned out poorly perhaps it's for the best.

The title is supposed to be revealed during DC FanDome along with the new Batman game. It was supposed to be revealed during E3 2020 but due to COVID-19 new plans were made.
