In Sniper Elite Resistance, you have the opportunity to unlock the M1 Garand, a fan-favorite rifle well-known from other World War II titles like Call of Duty 1 and 2 and Medal of Honor. It’s famous for its classic “ping” sound when ejecting the magazine clip. To unlock it, you need to complete a specific kill challenge in Mission 4, titled Collision Course.
Understanding the Kill Challenge
To unlock the M1 Garand, you need to complete the kill challenge in Mission 4: Collision Course. The objective is to eliminate LCK Spiegel by making him fall from the dam. From the mission select screen, choose Collision Course and review the kill challenge.
The target is located near a platform attached to the main walkway along the dam. You need to lure him onto the smaller platform and then shoot one of the support structures beneath it. Doing so will cause the platform to collapse, sending the target falling to his death and completing the challenge.
Recommended Loadout
For this mission, your loadout should focus on stealth and silence. Equip the Lee Enfield No. 4 rifle, the Sten Gun Mk I for your secondary, and for your pistol, use the Mle 1935A. This pistol is particularly helpful because it allows suppressed fire.
Use subsonic rounds if necessary, and equip the adapted PU sight for a 3x zoom to help you aim more accurately. The suppressor that comes with it makes it perfect for killing enemies in silence without alerting troops nearby.
For this task, you don't have to use your main or secondary weapons. Using louder guns might even draw too much attention to you. Pay attention to your gun to stay calm and in charge of the task.
Choosing the Right Starting Point
The best place to begin is the Dam Lookout in the northwest section of the map. Although the default starting location places you far below the target, starting from the Dam Lookout puts you much closer to the objective. It also reduces the number of enemies you need to deal with.
If you attempt to start from the default spawn location, you’ll need to work your way all the way up to the dam, and it takes too long. Additionally, the target won’t move onto the smaller platform unless you get close enough to trigger that behavior. Starting from the Dam Lookout helps you avoid this issue.
You could also test starting from the Power Station, but that route is more difficult. There are more enemies between you and the target. From the Dam Lookout, you only need to deal with about four or five enemies. That makes it much more manageable.
Initial Movements and Enemy Patrols
Once you spawn at the Dam Lookout, get ready to equip suppressed ammunition. The moment you move, you might get spotted by a nearby guard. There’s a tower ahead and a soldier who tends to look toward your starting location. Even slight movement can draw his attention.
Use your binoculars to track enemy locations. If you’re lucky, he won’t see you. But if he does, remain calm. If only that one soldier sees you and no others are alerted, you can continue. Try to avoid triggering a full alarm by staying low and moving slowly.
Take out that first guard as soon as possible. After that, you’ll encounter two more enemies up ahead. These two must be eliminated before you get to the watchtower because they’ll likely spot you approaching the platform where the target appears. Take them out one by one. Focus on the guard to the right first, as he will eventually turn away, giving you the opportunity for a stealth takedown.
Securing the Sniping Position
With the immediate enemies cleared, make your way up to the sniping point. Be careful of one final guard up top—if present, remove him or move his body to avoid detection. Use this chance to switch to regular ammunition if needed and stow away any weapons that might blow your cover.
From this vantage point, you can now see the platform. Look for the target, LCK Spiegel. If you’ve followed the proper steps and started from the Dam Lookout, he should already be standing on the small platform. This doesn’t happen if you start from the lower spawn—he won’t appear there until you get close enough to trigger him.
You’ll also notice that once he moves onto the platform, he tends to remain there for quite a while. This gives you plenty of time to line up the shot. This is why starting from this angle is so critical. When viewed from afar, he’ll just patrol back and forth and never step onto the collapsing platform.
Taking the Shot
Once the target is standing on the smaller platform, get ready. Use your binoculars or scope to measure the distance. It should be about 90 to 100 meters—close enough for a precise shot.
You can choose to use your rifle or, for more of a challenge, try your pistol. With the suppressor and subsonic rounds equipped, the pistol can do the job while keeping things quiet. Line up your shot with the support beam underneath the platform. When you destroy the beam, the platform will break, and the target will fall, completing the kill challenge.
Make sure you watch carefully. Once he falls, no other enemies should be immediately alerted if you’ve used the suppressed pistol. You may hear nearby voices react, but it’s unlikely they’ll fully engage or raise the alarm.
Mission Complete
Once you’ve eliminated LCK Spiegel in the required way, you’ll have officially completed the kill challenge for Mission 4: Collision Course. With this task done, you’ll unlock the M1 Garand as a usable weapon.
Double-check your map and mission summary to confirm that the kill challenge has been marked complete. The weapon should now be available in your loadout for future missions.
This strategy is clean, efficient, and doesn’t require heavy combat. You simply need patience, a good starting position, a suppressed weapon, and a well-placed shot.
Final Notes
The best strategy by far is to start from the Dam Lookout and quietly take out the few guards in your path. Be cautious, stay low, and move slowly. Watch out for that first guard at the beginning who always looks in your direction. If you manage that first step, the rest of the mission becomes much easier.
Once you reach the sniping point, don’t rush. Take your time, wait for the target to stand on the platform, and then aim for the support beam. You can use a rifle for more certainty, but if you’re up for a fun challenge, the pistol works just as well.
Once the beam collapses and the target falls, the M1 Garand is yours.
