Hitman 3 Freelancer Mode Delayed as New Roadmap Announced

IO Interactive announce roadmap for May, but delay new Hitman 3 Freelancer mode.

IO Interactive have released a new, updated roadmap laying out what the future holds for Agent 47, and Hitman 3.

First off Hitman: Freelancer, announced in January, has been delayed to the second half of 2020. While this is disappointing, there is some good news for fans with the release of the new map Ambrose Island being brought forward to July.

The events of Ambrose Island, also known as Codename Rocky, take place prior to the narrative of Hitman 3 and this nighttime map will reportedly fill in “a few gaps from the World of Assassination storyline.

From the information available, Hitman: Freelancer looks to be a natural evolution of the Hitman formula. In January IO Interactive described the new game mode as having “rogue-like elements, strategic planning, and a customizable safehouse.” As those that have played any of IO’s Hitman trilogy will know before each mission they are given the option to prepare Agent 47. Equipping him with an array of weapons, distractions, outfits, and even selecting different starting locations within the expansive maps (depending on how much the player has unlocked).

Hitman: Freelancer’s safehouse sounds as if it will be a more intractable, customizable version of this menu; realized as a three-dimensional mission hub where players can restock and resupply between missions. Hitman: Freelancer will pit players against criminal syndicates in a set of new campaigns; culminating in a final mission to assassinate each groups’ Leader. Players will be able to choose the order of their missions, however, any equipment they take with them and don’t bring back will be lost forever. Equipment such as lockpicks and poisons will need to be restocked either between missions or at one of the Suppliers dotted around the mission map.

Suppliers are just one of the new NPC types being added in Freelancer mode, there will also be “new NPC types, that can either help or hinder [player] progress” and even inform the Leaders of Agent 47’s presence. Most excitingly players will also go up against “NPC assassins”!

Fans of Hitman 3 are in for an exciting year. For PC players that love well-lit, great-looking games Patch 3.110 adds Ray Tracing on May 24th and there will be an increase in the number of Featured Contracts players (on consoles and PC) who can take part for a short period of time. May also sees the Ducky Gun enter the game, a yellow rabbit suit, and three Elusive Targets (one new, two reactivated). Finally, in July, Ambrose Island arrives, and in the second half of the year Hitman: Freelancer debuts.
