Iron Man Game Announced By Electronic Arts

Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist... and now video game protagonist

In the same week that The Hollywood Reporter revealed that New Line Cinema turned down the chance to make an Iron Man film in the early 2000s because "it didn't make sense because Iron Man was too heavy to fly", EA announced that they will be publishing a new game starring the popular Marvel superhero.

Motive Studio, the developers of Star Wars: Squadrons and the upcoming Dead Space remake, have begun development on the title, and Olivier Proulx (a producer on 2021's Guardians of the Galaxy game, and 2016's Deus Ex: Mankind Divided) is leading the team.

Aside from a VR title in 2020, Tony Stark has mostly appeared in ensemble games in recent years. Motive Studio's new title "will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it's like to truly play as Iron Man.

Iron Man will be "the first of several new games" in a new long-term collaboration between Marvel and EA. While Motive Studio's General Manager Patrick Klauss admits the game is in its very early stages, he hopes that the new announcement will encourage "developers who are just as passionate about Marvel as [they] are to consider joining Motive."

While fans wait for more news, there are plenty of Marvel video games featuring Iron Man to dive into, including Marvel's: Avengers, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, and the upcoming Fireaxis game Marvel's Midnight Suns.
