Versus Evil Partners With Swordtales to Release Indie Adventure Game Toren

Versus Evil and Swordtales to release indie adventure game Toren in early 2015.

Publisher Versus Evil has announced their partnership with developer Swordtales for the release of Toren, "a dark fantasy adventure game that brings poetry to life." Versus Evil has a rich background, partnering with numerous developers to release such notable games as Dragons and Titans, Habitat and The Banner Saga, and Swordtales is more than enthused to be working with the publisher.

Toren is the biggest project of our lives and we have been independently developing it for three years.  A big concern for us was finding a publishing partner for the game, one that understood how we operated and had the experience to help us launch the game successfully. We found the ideal partner in Versus Evil and are looking forward to working closely with them.

Formed in Brazil in 2011, Swordtales' Toren is one of the first games to be supported by the Brazilian Cultural Incentive Law. Also known as the Law Rouanet, the decree allows taxpayers to invest in or make donations to a project, receiving a tax deduction in exchange.

Built around a poem, Toren has players observing the birth and growth of a young, lonely girl named Moonchild. Through this visually stunning journey, Moonchild must complete puzzles and travel through a dangerous environment to unlock the mystery that is the tower Toren, discovering "the greatest myth of all, the meaning of life."

A great tower wraps the life of the little princess
One contract, one journey and Time itself ...
... that she's about to face
A path we're treading, seeking our inner Truths
Overcoming obstacles looking for what can fulfill ourselves
A sword, a gun, a door, an answer
One reason to survive among the cold stones

In their press release, Versus Evil revealed that Toren will release in early 2015 for PC, Mac and PlayStation 4. Check out a trailer for the indie game here.
