Loot boxes are one of the most hated additions in video games and 2017 was labeled the "Year of the Loot Box" after some big triple-a releases used the system in premium games to lock performance enhancing content behind a paywall. While Metal Gear Survive, Konami's next big game, will require a constant internet connection and include microtransaction it will not have loot boxes.
In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Metal Gear series producer Yuji Korekado stated:
“There will not be loot boxes and there will not be pay-to-win types of MTX [microtransations]. There will be things like the accessories in Metal Gear Online, and Forward Operating Base in The Phantom Pain.”
Korekado also commented that players will not need to invest in microtransactions to gain an advantage.
The inclusion of loot boxes has been a heated debate with politicians taking action against the system and determining whether the system can be classified as gambling.
Metal Gear Survive will release February 20th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
