The SNES and NES Classic systems are one of the most popular items to come from Nintendo. Causing a new surge of demand for these classic systems that Sony tried to release their own to mediocre results. However, despite a poor launch and a comeback in stock Nintendo has decided to end the consoles productions.
Reggie Fils-Aime, CEO of Nintendo of America, says Nintendo is discontinuing production on both the NES Classic and the SNES Classic. That means once the consoles already in stock are sold out, the only way to get one will be to find a used version on eBay or Craigslist. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter:
“We’ve said that the current systems are the extent of our classic program,” Fils-Aime said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve also been clear that, at least from an Americas perspective, these products are going to be available through the holiday season and once they sell out, they’re gone. And that’s it.”
The wording Fils-Aime used could mean that JP and EU versions will remain but NA consoles will be gone. If you want one you better go find one now.
