The Dead Island series has just reached a big point. The first Dead Island came out fourteen years ago. To celebrate, Dambuster Studios released an exciting but cryptic tease that has fans thinking that Dead Island 3 is on the way. In a post honoring the occasion, the series' developers talked about how far the game has come.
The gruesome first appearance of Dead Island was fourteen years ago. Twenty million killers have been drawn to sunny LA by Dead Island 2. Dambuster is already up to his or her neck in work for the next attack. The trip isn't over yet. The team is working on the next big part, which is clear from the way the sentence is written.

Some thought this might mean more Dead Island 2 DLC, but the tone and frame of the message suggest something much bigger. For one thing, developers don't usually take a victory lap unless they're getting ready for the next chapter. Since two games have already come out, Dambuster probably wouldn't use this much noise to tease a simple add-on.
It couldn't be more convenient. Dead Island 2 came out last year after being in development limbo for almost a decade. Both reviewers and fans were surprised by how good it was. What was once a difficult project that many people thought was doomed has turned into a real success story. Over 20 million people have now played the game.
This is thanks to strong sales, partnerships with subscription services, and a group of loyal fans who want the series to do well. It's very different from the beginning of the series. Fans remember the first Dead Island, released in 2011, less for how it played and more for the deeply emotional trailer, which set a tone that the game itself never quite lived up to.
Even though it sold well enough to inspire a sequel (Dead Island: Riptide), reviews were mixed, and in the end, many fans chose Dying Light, which is very much like Dead Island. But Dead Island 2 not only lived up to the hype, it arguably went above and beyond what fans thought it would be.
Dambuster Studios eventually developed a gory, silly, and surprisingly delightful game after years of hesitation and moving studios. Its triumph brought the series back to life, taking it from something that had been forgotten into one of the most talked-about comebacks in gaming.
Now that the series is on solid ground, there has never been more faith in a third game. Fans are already making guesses about where the series might take place, what the plot might be, and how Dambuster might change the formula. It remains to be seen if Dead Island 3 stays in places with lots of sunshine or goes to darker, more atmospheric places.
There is no doubt that the brand is doing well now, even if some assumed it was dead. This new teaser for Dambuster lays out the next big thing. If Dead Island 2 is any indicator, things are likely to get very bright or very bloody.
