Bungie, the company that made Halo and Destiny, is used to having high hopes for its games. But before those huge hits, they built a name for themselves with the sci-fi first-person shooter series Marathon, which came out in the 1990s and is an important part of the features fans now associate with Bungie. To the present day, Bungie is working hard to bring that old game back to life, but the path has not been easy.

The first few tests for the new Marathon were not very good. Because most of the feedback was negative, Bungie had to move back the planned release for Marathon. It wasn't a small delay; it was a sign that the game needed major changes. Players didn't like a lot of the first builds, so it was clear that Bungie had to start over to make a game that lived up to the franchise's history.

Fortunately, the latest news is positive. New tests have started, and early reports show that the new builds are already making a big difference. A Destiny 2 data miner was the first person to share information about changes. His posts were taken down because Bungie claimed they violated the DMCA. Still, fans got enough information to get a sense of the way Bungie is going.

A new character originally codenamed "Thief" but now officially called Icon, is one of the most interesting features. Icon adds fun new ways to play, like a grappling hook for fighting from above and an X-ray vision skill that makes enemies and loot containers stand out. These tools are designed to make firefights more strategic and engaging, providing players with more choices in both battle and exploration.

The game's groups have also been changed, and now they have cinematic introductions that make the stories more interesting and draw you in. In the same way, maps change. The familiar outpost map now has environmental hazards that make it more difficult. On the other hand, a brand-new map set on the UEC Marathon, the famous spaceship from the original 1990s game, is designed with puzzle-like elements that encourage exploration and reward curiosity.

Bungie wants to make the game better. A 30-day research study came after the third public playtest, which began at the end of August. People who take part must play for at least an hour every day and fill out surveys. If they stay busy until October 7, they can win a $500 gift card. This is a serious commitment from both the players and Bungie, showing how serious the company is about getting detailed feedback to make the end product better.

New reports also say that the graphics have gotten a lot better. Screenshots show better lighting, settings with more people, and new weapons. People have said that the V99 Channel sniper gun is like the fast and powerful sniper from Team Fortress 2. It gives long-range battles a satisfying edge.

The big question now is whether Bungie can do this all the way through. Extraction shooters are hard because there is a lot of competition, and fans of the original Marathon and new players who want a polished, fun experience have high standards. For fans of the original series, the reboot must respect its history. For newcomers, all they want is fun, tight gameplay.

The growth here is good news for everyone, including those who don't usually enjoy live service games. Bungie's promise to listen to feedback, change the way the game works, and make the graphics better proves that the studio is serious about this revival. Fans are thrilled about what's to come since the next few years look brighter for Marathon than they have in a long time.
