FIFA and Madden Next-Generation Upgrades Is Not Free, Exclusive to Special Editions

Many publishers and developers have decided to provide free PS5 and Xbox Series upgrades for games released on previous generation systems. Well, not EA with a report from GamesIndustry.biz confirming EA is limiting all next-generation upgrades to special editions only.

Players can only upgrade through the Dual Entitlement Program, limiting upgrades of Madden NFL 22 and FIFA 22 to special editions only.

Dual Entitlement means you can upgrade your copy of the FIFA 22 Ultimate Edition from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S at no additional cost. Simply put, it gives you access to the game on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

MVP Edition contains 40 additional Staff Points, a 10-level unlock in "The General" class for player’s avatar in Face of the Franchise and The Yard, 1 cover athlete vanity capsule, 1 additional Elite Item, and 11 Team Fantasy Packs. Dynasty Edition contains all MVP Edition content, 80 additional Staff Points, 1 Legend Vanity Capsule, 11 Additional Packs, and 1 Curated Legends Elite Packs. The Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions of Madden NFL 22 MVP and Dynasty Editions also provide an unlock for a digital copy on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 version of Madden NFL 22 MVP and Dynasty Editions also provide an unlock for a digital copy on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. Some progress does not transfer between platforms.

This isn't surprising considering how much these franchises depend on charging the player base. The titles have been analyzed by fans year after year highlighting recycled assets and poor mechanics. However, the use of heavy monetization has made EA billions in revenue. So the company charging these customers an additional $40 to upgrade isn't surprising at all.
