Knights of Honor II - Sovereign is the first grand strategy entry from the prolific publisher.

Hey, where is that Knights of Honor II - Sovereign that publisher THQ Nordic announced? It's been remarkably quiet about this title for a while, despite the game being currently still pending for a 2020 release on PC via Steam.
Knights of Honor II - Sovereign is the first grand strategy entry from the prolific publisher. In fact, the game's predecessor was put under the Paradox Interactive label, the other purveyor of all things strategy. As such, expect a lot of similarities with known quantities from the latter stable. There's definitely some Crusader Kings II in there, with a ruling royalty that oversees the kingdom. Players can dive into the diplomacy aspect of directing an empire, by appointing a system of officials.
For its sequel, Knights of Honor II - Sovereign also trades in a more modest pixel art style for a more updated, full 3D look, akin to a series like Civilization. A combat element takes advantage of this display, for fights with expansive armies, complete with regimens, such as the Total War franchise. With cities and walls to siege, there's also a smidge of Stronghold in there. This sequel is definitely inspired by their peers, even if details so far have been sparse.
There is hope, however, as developer Black Sea Games has been holding a consistent amount of developer diaries on the THQ channels. While these videos haven't really shown a lot more detail, other than the vagueries of discussing scope, it is a sign that there is work done on the game, to this day. A 2020 release window might not happen though, as very little active gameplay has surfaced, with only four months left. With Gamescom underway and the game being announced one year ago, there would've been no better time to have a blowout trailer, but unfortunately THQ Nordic has only had Kingdom of Amalur news.
All that to say that we're still cautiously excited about Knights of Honor II - Sovereign and we are eager to see the breadth of its growth. This game is said to be an accessible entry in grand strategy and that's a welcome concept. Not since Civilization Revolution or another Paradox Interactive release, Warlock: Master of the Arcane, has a developer thought of making these games more palpable to a wider audience. With Crusader Kings III only moments away, it would be great to hear if a good primer on the genre is forthcoming.
