Knull, Venom & Spider-Man 3 Prepping for the PS6 Launch

The web of Insomniac's Marvel universe is getting tighter, and it's heading toward something huge. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was a huge hit, and new information suggests that the studio is getting ready to take its stories far beyond the rooftops of New York City. Sources say that Insomniac is already working on both a standalone Venom game and Marvel's Spider-Man 3. Both games may feature Knull, the god of the symbiotes, one of Marvel's most terrifying cosmic beings.

Knull, who was first hinted at through mysterious symbols in the Venom arc, is a being of pure darkness in the Marvel universe. He is the original creator of the symbiotes and has power that rivals that of the gods. The fact that his insignia showed up on meteorites and symbiote hosts in Spider-Man 2 wasn't just a random Easter egg; it was a warning.

Insomniac is getting ready for his arrival, and the studio knows that this is not a villain you can just put on a side quest. Knull's size makes him the perfect character for either the upcoming Venom game or a future Spider-Man 3 sequel.But there is a twist. Reports say that Spider-Man 3 will already have a lot of villains in it. Green Goblin is likely to be the main bad guy, but other well-known villains like Doctor Octopus, Chameleon, Venom, and even Carnage are also rumored to show up. 

What happened? A stage full of chaos, power, and emotional conflict. Because there are so many characters, Knull's full story won't be told until later. This could be the start of the Venom series or a whole new symbiote saga on the next generation of consoles.

Brian Intihar's team is reportedly working on Marvel's Spider-Man 3, which is set to release between 2028 and 2029 as one of the main games for PlayStation 6. Yes, the next Spider-Man game could be released right when the gaming world transitions to a new console generation. Even though that sounds far away, early information suggests a dramatic and emotionally charged conclusion to the trilogy. According to reports, the story will see Peter Parker return from his break and deal with old friends who have become enemies, while also serving as a mentor to Miles Morales.

The story is also said to pick up where the Venom game left off. This game serves as a link between Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming third game. This standalone game, expected to release around 2027, will focus on Eddie Brock's symbiotic journey and delve deeper into the Carnage story. The Carnage arc, which is closely linked to Peter Parker and Yuri Watanabe, is said to go straight into Spider-Man 3, making it one of Insomniac's most connected stories yet.

Fans could play as Venom in Spider-Man 3 or get special DLC that lets them control him. This would enable Insomniac to delve into the antihero's moral complexities and introduce new gameplay elements that extend beyond the capabilities of a standard Spider-Man game. The studio has a history of making combat feel smooth and telling emotional stories. A dual story between Peter, Miles, and Venom could take the superhero genre to a new level.

The mention of Silk, a character closely connected to the Spider-Verse, adds even more interest. Some sources suggest that she might be a playable hero with her own story that runs parallel to Peter and Miles.

If this is true, Spider-Man 3 could have several main characters who are all working toward the same goal: saving a city that is on the verge of change or destruction. Each character would have their own internal struggles.

The release date may seem far away, but Insomniac's plan for the game looks well thought out. In 2026, Marvel's Wolverine is set to release. In 2027, Venom is scheduled for release. In 2028 or 2029, Spider-Man 3 is expected to be released. This schedule allows the studio time to refine each entry while maintaining consistency within the shared universe.  This plan could be as big and complicated as the Marvel movie lineup. 

The fact that Knull is in the game suggests that Insomniac might want to do a bigger cosmic crossover in the future. Picture a dark, epic story in which Spider-Man, Venom, and maybe Wolverine are all pulled into a war against a god who wants to eat up all the light in the galaxy. That idea isn't too far-fetched, given the power of next-gen hardware and Insomniac's history of telling stories.

There are now a lot of heroes, monsters, and moral consequences in both the earthly and cosmic worlds. The only thing left to ask is this: who will be able to stop the god of the symbiote when he comes down?
