Once a strong paladin prince, Arthas Menethil was devoured and corrupted by a mistaken devotion to preserving his people at any cost. Now, from the cold throne of Icecrown Citadel, he commands his undead army to wage war against Azeroth's inhabitants. Blizzard Entertainment has announced that on September 26, all players with a current membership will be able to play the genuine re-creation of World of Warcraft's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King Classic, for no extra cost. World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic worlds will have access to the new expansion when it goes live at 3 p.m. PDT on November 14.
Northrend, Blizzard's most remarkable expansion yet, will provide the setting for players to face the Lich King and his army (until the upcoming release of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight). As they work to break through Icecrown and fight one of the most terrifying dangers to Azeroth's history, they'll come face to face with some of the most beautiful landscapes and cherished narratives in World of Warcraft.
13 iconic dungeons from Wrath of the Lich King will be available for players to experience, including Ahn'Kahet: The Old Kingdom. Players will face the minions of the Old God Yogg-Saron and the plague-infested Culling of Stratholme, which recreates the tragic event in Warcraft history that led to Prince Arthas' downfall. Raids featured in the expansion include improved versions of Naxxramas and Onyxia's Lair from pre-expansion World of Warcraft, as well as Icecrown Citadel, where the Lich King's tale comes to a dramatic finale.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic launches on September 26, and players can participate in Joyous Journeys, a 50% extra XP event that will last until then. Before the game's official release, the Burning Crusade Classic content will be available to all WoW members until September 26, allowing them to level up one Death Knight per Classic world. Additional possible enhancements include new cosmetic items and a level-70 character boost for users who may not yet have a fully leveled character.
