Pokémon Legends ZA promises to be a city-oriented game, and it marks an important step for Game Freak and Nintendo as they go from Switch to Switch 2.

People who love Nintendo and Pokémon are going crazy since recent leaks have given them a lot of information on the long-awaited Pokémon Legends ZA. A pirated ROM made its way online, and people started talking about late-game content, Mega Evolutions, and the game's big-city setting on social media.

Besides the ROM leaks, new reports show how the project has been developed over time. Pokémon Legends ZA was supposed to come out in late 2024, but it will now launch on October 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and the soon-to-be-released Switch 2.

The game will take place entirely in Lumio City, offering an urban open-world adventure unlike any previous Pokémon game.

The "Terror leak" gave us access to internal planning documents that show the game was meant to mark the end of the Nintendo Switch era and pave the way for the next generation of Pokémon games.

The reports say that the whole adventure takes place in Lumio City, which is in the Kos region from Pokémon X and Y. Legends ZA will put players in the middle of a city, focusing on daily life, interactions between humans and Pokémon, and city routines.

Previous Pokémon games had large areas and routes. The goal is to create a city that looks and feels like real life while retaining the Pokémon game mechanics. This may be hard for players who are used to playing in different types of natural environments.

Mega Evolutions will not only look stunning but also reinforce the central theme of human-Pokémon bonds.

According to the development notes, the game takes place in the Kos region five years after Pokémon X and Y. Mega Evolutions play a major role in both the story and gameplay. The creators of Mega Evolutions want it to show how people connect with Pokémon and be an important part of the story.

From starting to work on prototypes in February 2022 to pushing back the release date, it looks like Game Freak spent a lot of time making the gameplay better for a next-gen experience on Switch 2. The internal paper leaks also make it clear who Legends ZA is meant for. Ideal players are those who have played Pokémon Legends: Arceus, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon.

This means that the gaming loop is more complex than in previous Pokémon games. People new to the series can still enjoy the game, but it's mostly for those who like urban open-world RPGs, strategic PvP fights, and new ways to play Pokémon games that aren't like the ones we're used to.

Reports say that Game Freak's way of making games involved moving staff from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to Legends ZA so that lessons learned from those games could be used in the new one. This approach shows how experimental the Legends label is, allowing the studio to try out big changes to how games work without straying too far from standard Pokémon rules.

Fans can look forward to an experience that is both mature and easy to understand, featuring city exploration, intense fights, and a deeper story set in the Kos region. The news isn't always good. Reports say that the game has an auto-save function that can't be turned off.

This means that save-and-quit strategies that are common in shiny hunting won't work. This is a big change from previous games that could affect players who like to change save files to find rare Pokémon.

Pokémon Legends ZA is shaping up to be the defining Pokémon experience of the Switch 2 era.

Even so, early performance reviews are good. As of October 12, 2025, Pokémon Legends ZA is the most popular game on the Nintendo Switch eShop and is selling out quickly across many platforms. With its cityscapes, improved gameplay, and next-gen polish, Legends ZA is set to be Nintendo's big holiday release, especially for Switch 2 owners who want a new Pokémon journey.

To sum up, Pokémon Legends ZA is a big step forward for Game Freak. The game takes place entirely in cities and focuses on Mega Evolutions. It also features a more challenging gameplay style designed for experienced gamers.

This is both the last big Pokémon game for the original Switch and a bridge to the next-generation console. Fans can look forward to a city-centered, story-rich Pokémon journey on October 16, 2025, that will test their strategy and real-time reaction skills.
