Resident Evil 6 Remaster Can Replace Resident Evil Re:Verse

RE6 Remaster is hitting the shelves soon, and Resident Evil Re:Verse is permanently shutting down.

A re-release of the debated Resident Evil 6 on current-gen systems seems to be in the works at Capcom. In 2016, remasters of the original Resident Evil game were published, bringing the 2012 installment, Resident Evil 6, which is widely regarded as the most hated Resident Evil game for a variety of reasons, to almost every platform. The public disclosure and release of a remastered version of Resident Evil 6 that, in fans' opinion, neither sought nor believed was essential soon to occur and much improved from Resident Evil 6.

However, reportedly, Resident Evil 6's ESRB rating was updated in late January, and oddly enough, it's now exclusive to Xbox One X|S consoles. The presence of this re-remaster on the ESRB almost guarantees the imminent release of a new Resident Evil 6 in some form. This game could improve upon the current remaster in terms of framerate and quality, but I fail to see the point of this new, probable re-release.

With Resident Evil's dedicated fan base, CAPCOM is still probably seeing a tidy profit from Resident Evil 6 Remaster. On the other hand, this remaster would pose a threat since I’m unsure whether Capcom should update the story to reflect modern technology or stick with the new formula of previous remakes, particularly the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

It's obvious that a vast majority of Resident Evil fans will be extremely concerned about the Resident Evil 6 Remaster because there is so much room for improvement that any resemblance to the original would cause fans to lose respect for the series without any financial incentive to make up for it. After what seems like an eternity, I still don't get why someone would shell out cash for this game.

Since the Resident Evil 5 Remake is rumored to be released soon, perhaps Capcom should concentrate on that to remind the base of the BSAA's worldwide role. The following entry will start where Resident Evil Village left off, tying the BSAA into RE's next chapter. After all, remakes are necessary only when a game becomes unplayable on current-gen platforms. Since Resident Evil 5 didn’t get a current-gen release, it is more sensible to have a Resident Evil 5 Remake instead of a Resident Evil 6 Remaster.

Since the majority of the criticisms directed against Resident Evil 6 were 100% valid, the question is whether Resident Evil 6 Remaster should include an entirely new plot that aligns well with Capcom's new vision for the remake. Although I still do not look back on this game with interest, my opinion on it has evolved slightly over the years.

However, I still have some form of anticipation for the Resident Evil 6 Remaster since I’ve already enjoyed its multiplayer. The Mercenaries Mode was fun, too, and perhaps the best part of the game. Now that Capcom is shutting down Resident Evil Re:Verse in June 2025 after a short three-year run, it will be interesting to see if they can revitalize the Online Co-Op, Online Multiplayer, Versus, and The Mercenaries modes in the Resident Evil 6 Remaster.
