Rockstar Bringing Back Several Familiar Faces in GTA 6

Rockstar’s track record of reintroducing fan-favorite characters sparks debates across the community.

Rockstar Games has always had a knack for quietly interconnecting their titles, and all signs and speculations hint at GTA 6 being the studio’s most intricately connected universe yet. Set in the state of Leonida and featuring a rejuvenated Vice City, the game introduces us to two new protagonists, Lucia and Jason—alongside an entirely fresh cast.

But if you know Rockstar, you should know better as to what lengths the company is capable of going to when dropping Easter eggs. These speculations aren’t just about new characters and locations. Rockstar is known for dropping subtle nods. Whether it be in commemoration or introduction, the company has always left fans in a whirl of anticipation when it comes to celebrating their previous legends.

Liberty City was name-dropped in GTA 5 for a reason. References to Las Venturas appeared on in-game radio stations. Rockstar has a long-standing habit of rewarding those who pay attention, and GTA 6 seems set to carry on that tradition. One of the most likely candidates to make a return is Lester Crest.

Though absent from the trailers so far, Lester’s role as the mastermind behind GTA 5’s heists makes him a bridge between the GTA 5 and 6 universes, if Rockstar decides to go down that road. If Lucia and Jason are planning complex jobs, they could do with Lester’s know-how. His expertise in hacking, surveillance, and most importantly, staying low-key would be an invaluable asset to our protagonists, especially if the new game leans into a similarly ambitious heist system.

Another strong possibility is Ken Rosenberg, Tommy Vercetti’s eccentric and paranoid lawyer from Vice City. Having also made an appearance in San Andreas, Ken’s return would provide a nostalgic link to the past and offer legal cover to Lucia and Jason.

Let’s just say, for the sake of better visualization, he could be the Saul Goodman to Jason and Lucia’s Walter White-like empire. Although now aged and broken down, he could be in his hideout in a back alley office in Port Gellhorn—reluctantly dragged back into the chaos. His return would not only make sense narratively but also provide some comic relief in classic Rockstar fashion.

Some fans argue that characters from the 3D era and the HD universe cannot overlap; Rockstar’s own games prove otherwise. Willie of Love Fist appeared in GTA 5, Claude’s outfit showed up in GTA 4, and the studio has cunningly dropped these trails beforehand for us to follow. Rockstar doesn’t follow the rules; they create them.

What about GTA 5’s kingpin, Franklin Clinton, who’s still a major player in GTA Online through his celebrity fixer agency, F. Clinton & Partner. Franklin has matured into a calm, strategic figure, a stark contrast to the young blood we saw him exude in the GTA 5 storyline. He could easily appear in a supporting or cameo role in GTA 6, especially if Rockstar expands on the online component. Franklin could be the guy passing the torch to Jason and Lucia.

Trailer footage has already teased law enforcement corruption, opening the door for a potential successor to Ray Machowski from GTA 3. Ray himself would likely be too old by now; Rockstar does frequently reuse character archetypes. A shady handler and a crooked parole officer are exactly the kind of roster Rockstar could be unleashing if speculations prove true.

Vice City would feel incomplete without at least a nod to Tommy Vercetti. His voice actor, Ray Liotta, passed away, making a full reappearance unlikely. Rockstar could pay homage to the character through business names, graffiti, or subtle references to his legacy.

Some fans have even made up theories that Jason might have ties to the Vercetti family, probably as a former associate or relative. The timeline aligns well enough for Jason to have grown up during Tommy’s reign, making that connection more than just a hunch.

There are also a few wildcard picks. Tony Prince, otherwise known as Gay Tony, could return if nightclubs are a significant part of Vice Beach. Gerald from GTA Online, a standout character from the early days, might leave his stamp in a mission or two. Even someone from Trevor’s old crew could pop up, especially if arms dealing plays a major role in the campaign.

Ultimately, while GTA 6 introduces a new setting, new characters, and a fresh criminal underworld, Rockstar’s pattern suggests they are not ones to say goodbye to the legacy they have built. Characters like Lester, Ken, and Franklin aren’t just fan favorites; they could be tying the knot to previous GTA titles.

GTA 6 is shaping up to be more than just a new chapter. It’s a continuation of a saga spanning almost three decades. It could be a title that connects, evolves, and makes you reminisce about the days gone by. So, don’t be surprised if you find yourself crossing paths with old friends or foes when you see the new Vice City come to life.
