Sony's September 2024 State of Play stream had a lot of announcements for being just half an hour long. If you couldn't catch it live or didn't want to spend that long watching game trailers, this is the place for you. Every announcement and release date in September 2024 State of Play is covered here.
Some rumors were true, like the Remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn, but we have yet to see anything about the others. And before you get your hopes up, no, we did not get any updates on a Bloodborne remaster or PC port.
New Ghost of Tsushima Game Teased
Perhaps the most surprising announcement came at the end of the event, revealing a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. Titled Ghost of Yotei, it is set in Mount Yotei in 1603. This time, we follow a female protagonist who seems to be chill with the region's wolves; will we perhaps have a wolf companion in the game? The game is set to be released in 2025.
Monster Hunter Wilds Release Date
After months of tease, we finally got a concrete release date for Monster Hunter Wilds. You can already pre-order the game now, but it won't make the wait feel any shorter, for it is set to be playable on February 28, 2025. It will still be long before Capcom's flagship RPG adventure is available to the public.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Trailer
BioWare dropped a fresh trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, showing off the Blighted Dragon. After a decade of waiting since the last Dragon Age game, we finally have a release date. The game is set to be playable from October 31, 2024, and is already available for pre-order.
Hell is Us
We got a horror soulslike announced as well in this State of Play. What interested me was the sort of monsters and the heavy lean into psychological horror we saw in the trailer. We do not have a release date for this game yet, but we do know that the game will be available on Xbox Series X|S consoles alongside PS5 and perhaps on PC as well.
The Midnight Walk
We also have an experimental horror title on the Horizon with the announcement of The Midnight Walk. It's got a Claymation aesthetic, coming from the ones behind Lost in Random. The setting at this time is the southern regions of America. It's always nice to see a game with experimental visuals; here's to hoping this game turns out to play as well as it looks. You can play this game on PS VR 2 and PS5, though we do not have a release date yet.
ArcheAge Chronicles
The trailer for ArcheAge Chronicle was shown off, and it looks like yet another soulslike game with a medieval setting now. The visuals look great, and the bosses are terrifying. The game is going to be released in 2025.
Astrobot DLC Coming This Fall
Astrobot took the internet by storm when it came out earlier this month. It's like a love letter to gaming, and the attention to detail put into the game is astounding. The best part about this DLC is that it will be free. So, if you were waiting for a sign hopping on one of the best 3D platformers that isn't Mario, now's the time to do it.
Alan Wake 2: Lake House Expansion
We got a teaser for Alan Wake 2's next DLC expansion, which will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles in October of this year.
Palworld is Now Playable on PS5
Perhaps this was set in stone before the huge lawsuit filed by Nintendo against Palworld, but it's here. You can now play this game on PS5 consoles.
Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered Announced
Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered will be released soon, with details on the upgrade path to follow. Those who own the original will likely be able to upgrade to the remaster by adding $10 because that is how it has been in the past for games like The Last of Us.
We also got an announcement about LEGO Horizon Adventures. It's Horizon, but in a neat LEGO package. It's slated to release on November 14, 2024, on PC and PlayStation 5 consoles.
New PS VR 2 Games Incoming
Several PS VR 2 games were also highlighted, including Metro Awakening, which will launch on November 7, 2024.
Other VR titles include The Midnight Walk and Hitman 3: VR Reloaded, slated for December 2024.
The Last of Us Part 1 Comes to PS Plus
A major win for The Last of Us fans came with the announcement that The Last of Us Part 1 will be available for PS Plus Premium and Extra subscribers starting September 26, 2024. This drop allows PlayStation owners to relive the iconic story just before the game's upcoming 11th anniversary.
TMNT Shredder's Revenge DLC
For those into nostalgia, TMNT Shredder's Revenge: Radical Reptiles DLC is out now, and it's got new ways to battle Shredder with extra content.
New Sonic Content
Additionally, a collaboration between Sonic and Shadow Generations DLC features Keanu Reeves and will be available before Sonic the Hedgehog 3 arrives in theaters later this year.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered
Fans of classic action-adventure games can rejoice as Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered arrives on December 10, 2024. The remaster revived the cult-classic series, and it was one of the most well-received announcements of the event. However, this was leaked a day before the actual event.
Other Significant Announcements
- The Lunar Remastered Collection is scheduled for Spring 2025.
- PS1-esque horror game Fear the Spotlight was announced to be released on October 22 on PlayStation and Xbox.
- Towers of Aghasba, a city-building game, will have an early access announcement in November. The game is available only on PS5 consoles.
- Fantasia Neo Dimension, the next evolution of the acclaimed RPG made by the creators of Final Fantasy, will be released on December 5, 2024.
- Dynasty Warriors: Origins release date trailer confirmed the game will arrive on January 17, 2024.
- Stellar Blade received an update, which includes a new photo mode and a collaboration with NieR Automata.
Last but not least, new PS5 colors were also announced. The PS5 Pro received a lot of slack for being a standalone announcement with no games, so the announcements in this State of Play were much needed for the console's longevity. We'll be sure to cover the games announced here moving forward, so stay tuned for more updates and coverage.
