Sony Allowing Shift Up For Stellar Blade Switch 2 Port

Stellar Blade is being considered for Switch 2, hinting at looser PlayStation publishing boundaries and a broader platform strategy.

Stellar Blade, developed by Shift Up and published by Sony, launched on PC this month and became one of Sony's most successful single-player Steam releases. After the PC Port release, the Stellar Blade crossed over three million sales across both platforms. Now, a rumor has spread that Shift Up is planning on bringing Stellar Blade to the new Nintendo Switch 2.

A report from a Korean Play forum says that Shift Up has been giving Nintendo Switch 2 to its employees as gifts. At first, this made people look twice, but it didn't take long for people to figure it out. The same forum post states that Stellar Blade is now being considered for a Switch 2 port, but this has not been confirmed by the developers.

The studio is said to have responded to the rumor by saying that it is looking into different options internally, which is business speak for "maybe, but don't quote us yet." Still, the timing and situation are strange. If nothing was cooking, why give out Switch 2 units?

Another interesting aspect is that Shift Up is not owned by Sony, yet Sony published Stellar Blade for the PS5. That leaves the game in a strange state of limbo: Sony owns the publishing rights but not the whole thing. Sony is becoming more willing to bring its published games to other platforms, especially those developed by third-party studios. Switch 2 could be part of a larger plan to make games that work on multiple platforms.

Moving PS-only games like Horizon, Days Gone, and Ghost of Tsushima to PC is one way Sony has already tried this. These tests have generated significant revenue and reached a large audience. Switch 2 might be the next big thing.

Stellar Blade would be a big hit with Nintendo fans if that's the case. The game has already gained a following thanks to its smooth action combat, RPG progression, and light Souls-like mechanics. One person who played the PS5 version for 15 hours described it as "a really fun action-adventure RPG" with great graphics and engaging gameplay. They didn't finish it, though, because of other games coming out at the same time.

Though we believe this won't be in stores anytime soon. A Switch 2 version is possible, but it probably won't be out for a while. Even if work has begun on Stellar Blade, it will be hard to make it work on Nintendo hardware, whether it's next-gen or not. The PS5 version of the game looked great.

Which is more likely: a port in the future or developers getting used to Nintendo's new development kit for future projects? Both are possible. However, since consoles have been given away, there has been talk of internal reviews, and Sony has been exploring multiplatform options for a while now. This rumor is more reliable than a simple forum post.

For now, don't believe it completely, but keep an eye out for more information. Stellar Blade could still find a way to a new battlefield before Shift Up releases Stellar Blade 2.
