No, this is not clickbait, but in order to show off just how versatile their controllers are, Sony used a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller to drive a car during the Consumer Electronics Show 2024. It should be noted that the car was equipped with special technology to make the demonstration possible and it utilized the same technology that was meant to show off how easy the controllers are at simulating real world driving in some of the consoles’ latest racing titles.

This was a major event for Sony as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a huge event that allows companies to show off the various new and innovative technologies that will be coming to the electronics industry. It is also during this time that companies such as Samsung and Sony show off concept items that could possibly hit the market sometime in the future. Many people were hoping Sony would show off the long-rumored PlayStation 5 Pro but sadly, that wasn't the case, however, we did get to see something even more interesting.

While we didn't get to see the PlayStation 5 Pro, we did get to see a new concept car from Sony, the Afeela. This interesting vehicle was made in collaboration with the Japanese car manufacturer, Honda. This isn't the first time we got a glimpse at the Afeela, as the vehicle was first shown off at CES 2023. The Afeela was shown off by none other than Honda Mobility President, Izumi Kawanishi, who used the feature rich DualSense controller to drive the software designed vehicle to the center of the platform during Sony's press conference. To show that there was no hidden driver in the vehicle, the Afeela’s headlights illuminated the stage and mounted interior cameras showed that indeed Izumi was the one driving the car.

As mentioned earlier, the use of the DualSense controller was only meant to be a tech demo and was also meant to show the shared beliefs between both Honda and Sony and that is "that software can define new function and value.” During an event such as the Consumer Electronics Show 2024, it is always a surprise when companies show off something as unique as the Afeela, which is a great departure from Sony's more well-known technological pursuits. It could be an indication that the company may soon venture into more non-gaming related pursuits in the future.
