Summer Game Fest - Cuphead Update
Cuphead developer Studio MDHR had a few things to share
News by TKras98 on Jul 28, 2020
Today, during a brief Summer Game Fest live stream, Maja Moldenhaur from Studio MDHR, developers of Cuphead, discussed several aspects of their smash-hit indie game. The stream started with a discussion of the upcoming Cuphead DLC: A Delicious Last Course. The DLC is still in development, and no dates were officially announced. The scope of the DLC is quite large, with new bosses and Ms. Chalice as a playable character. Overall, MDHR is trying to keep most of the DLC’s features under wraps.
Geoff Keighly and Moldenhauer also discussed the upcoming Cuphead Netflix TV series. The series has been in development for a little while, but the prospects of creating a series like this was beyond belief. The entire series is being animated by hand, and Netflix has partnered with Studio Lighthouse to bring the game to life as a netflix series. The series itself is meant to compliment the game, but does not seem to fit much into any sort of timeline. Cuphead’s series, much like the DLC, has no explicit release date at this time.
The stream ended with a surprise announcement in an animated teaser. The teaser, animated in stop motion, was an announcement for Cuphead for PlayStation 4. Cuphead on PS4 is available right now. After the game was initially announced as an Xbox and PC exclusive before coming to Switch, some fans thought that the game might never come to PS4. Moldenhaur commented on how the Xbox team was incredibly supportive of MDHR’s plan to launch on PS4. With this launch, the DLC is not set to appear on all platforms day one.
