Switch 2 Surprises Again: DLSS Boosts Bring Next-Level Visuals

From Final Fantasy 7 Integrade to Resident Evil Requiem, Switch 2 is proving handheld gaming can look amazing.

Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a stalwart in terms of handheld gaming performance, and recent discussions around DLSS updates confirm this. An insider mentioned that a DLSS update is expected for Switch 2 dev kits later this year.

Fans are asking if we've seen the update already. Some of the latest builds at the Tokyo Game Show are performing better than anyone expected. While it's possible that this is the DLSS update, it's also likely that developers are simply becoming more comfortable with the hardware and optimizing their games as release dates for games like Resident Evil Requiem and FF7 Remake approach.

The results are there for you to see. Games are looking sharper and running smoother in both handheld and docked modes. One example of DLSS optimization is Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. We are hearing shouts about FF7 Remake being the most visually striking game on the Switch 2 so far.

It runs at a solid 30 fps (confirmed by Square Enix), and the game's visuals are great, considering this is the Integrade version, not the original PS4 release. The Switch 2 handles this upgraded version surprisingly well in handheld mode.

Resident Evil Requiem Sets the Bar

Resident Evil Requiem, for example, is running at a full 60 fps and is equally impressive. While the FF7 Remake might not match it in terms of frame rate, its graphics are still bussing. Together, these games demonstrate that the Switch 2 isn't just capable of bringing classic franchises to portable gaming but can also be a premium experience for handheld gamers.

This is a major step forward. On the original Switch, many ports suffered from blurred textures and frame rate issues. Even if you were excited to play a favorite title on the go, these compromises were too hard to ignore. The Switch 2, now, seems to be delivering the console's vision: modern games that are both portable and visually impressive.

A Hybrid Console with Big Ambitions

Note that the Switch 2 is a hybrid console. It's a handheld first and foremost, with a docked mode offering slightly more power. You can't expect the Switch 2 to outperform a PS5, and it doesn't, but for its size, Switch 2, take a bow. As devs continue to explore the hardware and implement DLSS, the distance between handhelds and consoles is reducing.

With games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade and Resident Evil Requiem running better than ever, it's clear that the Switch 2 is hitting its stride.
