South of Midnight
Releasing on April 8, 2025, South of Midnight, developed by Compulsion Games, took center stage with new gameplay footage and a confirmed launch date. You get to step into the role of Hazel, a 19-year-old navigating a dark, magical world. As a weaver, Hazel will unravel mysteries, heal afflicted creatures, and mend the world around her. A storytelling fish will act as her guide.
Hazel’s gameplay emphasizes agility, with platforming, parkour, and object conjuration to navigate environments. Combat involves mastering magical skills and adapting to enemies’ unique traits. Progression unlocks new abilities as you explore varied biomes and face boss battles inspired by Southern folklore. South of Midnight launches for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Launching on April 24, 2025, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, developed by Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive, dazzled once again with fresh footage at the showcase. The RPG emphasizes interpersonal drama within its cast of expedition members, some of whom are playable. Its turn-based combat incorporates real-time elements and extensive customization via equipment and abilities.
Outside of combat, you can explore a 3D world map aboard a giant floating balloon. Expect a variety of unique locations and classic RPG exploration. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will debut on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass.
Ninja Gaiden 4
Team Ninja and PlatinumGames announced the highly anticipated Ninja Gaiden 4, slated for a Fall 2025 release. Set in Tokyo, you take on the role of Yakumo from the Raven Clan as he confronts the lingering darkness of the Dark Dragon. Ryu Hayabusa returns, clashing with Yakumo as part of their clans’ rivalry.
The game retains its fast-paced combat while introducing verticality with wall running, jumping, and grappling. Classic features like obliteration and ultimate techniques make a comeback. The game is said to be in its polishing phase, with a potential pre-release demo in the works.
Additionally, an Unreal Engine 5 remaster of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is available now for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, and Game Pass, offering an abundance of features while preserving the original’s challenge and gore.
Doom: The Dark Ages
Bethesda’s Doom: The Dark Ages showcased a fresh approach for the franchise, launching May 15. This semi-open-world first-person shooter is the largest Doom title yet, featuring secret caves, mines, and expansive levels with a medieval prequel setting.
Heavy emphasis on combat is given along with some weapons like shield saws, colliery flails, and a cybernetic dragon. For smoother action, glory kills are now unsynced, difficult sliders, and an addition of more optional content. Expect blockbuster narratives with cinematic cutscenes and new villains. The campaign promises one-hour levels, building applications. Doom: The Dark Ages Releases on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, and Game Pass.
It is the beginning of a thrilling year for Xbox owners and offers a game-changing user experience and storytelling along various game genres. Stay tuned for more updates as these games approach release.
