Upon starting Diablo IV, I was overwhelmed by the number of classes I could try out. Each class has unique mechanics, playstyle, and look, which determine how the entire experience unfolds. After spending several hours with the game, I figured out what each class was capable of, and thus, this guide is to help you with this purpose.
Whether you prefer utterly overwhelming raw might, strategic ranged assaults, or commanding forces in magical combat, this guide will explain to you how to choose between a Necromancer, Druid, Barbarian, Sorcerer, and Rogue.
Necromancer
If controlling legions of the dead and forces of life and death appeals to you, the Necromancer is the right choice for you. In fact, this is one of the classes that shines the best in solo play, as your summoned skeletons serve as shields, damage dealers, and vital companions.
Book of the Dead lets you customize summons to fit your fighting plan, whether it be an aggressive swarm or specialist support unit. Some consider necromancers to be masters of using the fallen to their advantage. Setting corpses to explode to distribute harm is only the beginning; corpses can also be used to give area-of-effect crowd control, such as stunning tendrils.
Skills that create corpses keep your skills strong, even in boss confrontations with few minions. Mastery routes further distinguish the class, allowing for Blood, Bone, and Minion-based builds.
Each one provides a unique set of passive abilities, such as blood orb healing, powerful ranged bone strikes, and reinforced summoning. If you want to ensure versatility and adaptability in this class, unleashing devastating curses or just commanding your troops is enough. Overall, it's a really satisfying experience to see the balance of range and melee combat for a Necromancer.
Druid
The Druid is a natural force, combining natural magic with shape-shifting into a powerful package. Ready for anybody who enjoys flexible playing styles, transform into a ferocious werewolf for quick and aggressive strikes or a sturdier werebear for tank-like stamina. Aside from shifting, this class can use elemental magic in thunderstorms and seismic upheavals to destroy enemies.
Though the Druid starts slower than other classes, with the correct gear and builds, it may reach its full potential. Animal spirits bring an additional layer to the gameplay by unlocking boosts that can be used to personalize your play style. The Druid's elemental masteries—Storm, Earth, or hybrid builds—provide debuffs, status effects, and crowd control abilities.
While druids rely far less on summoning than necromancers, their animal companions and adaptability in melee and ranged combat make them an ideal all-around pick. It is especially appealing to those looking for a growing character who becomes more formidable as the game progresses.
Barbarians
The Barbarian is for individuals who enjoy raw power and relentless melee. Because this class was designed with close combat in mind, its survivability, passive 10% damage reduction, and weapon versatility are unparalleled. On level 5, you will be able to attempt the Weapon Expertise system, which adds even more depth to the class and provides considerable bonuses based on the type of weapon you employ.
This is a class that depends on consistently upgrading equipment; it is the only class that can wield four weapons at the same time. This method will allow you to switch in and out of combat with ease, allowing you to take maximum damage and make the most of your skills. Certain talents, such as War Cry, along with the Berserking bonus, will increase your damage output and speed.
Because this class has no ranged choices, it is mostly focused on melee. If rushing headfirst into hordes of opponents appeals to you, the Barbarian class combines resilience, adaptability, and destructive force.
Sorcerer
The flashiest, most visually stunning, and most powerful abilities are those of the Sorcerer. The elemental types in this class - Frost, Fire, and Lightning - interact in ways that will allow you to make highly specialized builds.
What really makes the Sorcerer stand out is the Enchantments system. A system like this provides a great number of passive augmentations to skills, making the customizability of your build a lot easier. Proper use of the two enchantment slots allows for effective boosting of the skill in terms of strength. Take, for example, the Flame Shield enchantment, which can save you considerably and reduce any lethal damage, giving this fragile class even more survivability.
While the Sorcerer excels in area-of-effect attacks, the class is equally vulnerable in close-up confrontations. The most effective manner in which you should have the advantage would be placement, with protective walls and teleportation. If you enjoy showering down havoc from afar and putting together a variety of spell combos, playing Sorcerer is going to be worth it.
Rogue
A rogue is the ideal professional for precision, agility, and burst damage, with a perfect blend of ranged and melee combat. Such classes are bound to become enthusiastic about hit-and-run techniques, such as employing caltrops and smoke bombs to dodge danger and plan defacing attacks.
One of Rogue's strengths is the availability of higher-level specializations. One example is how Combo Points boost your basic attacks and charge your primary skills into devastating combos; others include Inner Sight and Preparation, which provide unique gameplay that necessitates precise timing and resource allocation.
The Rogue also has Imbuement Skills, which allow them to imbue their weapons with poison, ice, or shadow damage. This just makes your style even more effective and allows you to change your attacking style when you need it for an advantage over opponents. Its high speed, variety of gear, and hybrid playstyle make this class especially good for players who like strategic and flowing gameplay.
