In God of War Ragnarök, you’ve got loads of new content—this game is even bigger than the previous one, and this means there are even more items that you could possibly miss. If you don’t want that to happen, you’ll have to follow this guide. Here are some items you definitely don’t want to miss during your playthrough of the game.
Hilt of Hofud
The Hilt of Hofud relic allows you to freeze time by creating a realm shift. The more you upgrade it, the longer time will stay frozen. You can get this relic by defeating the boss Heim during the main story.
If you want to do a time-freezing build, you can also unlock pommels for your weapons by hunting down the Berserker bosses scattered throughout the world. Each Berserker drops attachments that let you slow time during combat. You’ll need to kill these Berserkers anyway to get some of the best loot in the game, so be on the lookout.
Hilt of Skofnung
Speaking of Berserkers, once you’ve taken down all of them, you’ll face the final boss, the Berserker King. If you manage to defeat him, which is no easy task, you’ll be rewarded with the Hilt of Skofnung.
This is one of the best relics in the game. When activated, the sword summons the souls of the Berserkers you’ve defeated, and they fight for you in battle. The swords fly around attacking enemies, and when their time runs out, they explode, dealing massive damage.
The only downside is that it has a long cooldown of 279 seconds, so you’ll only use it once per battle. But trust me, it’s worth it, especially if you plan to play New Game+.
Best Runic Abilities
Here are some of the best runic abilities for each of the weapons you get in God of War: Ragnarök:
Breath of Thamur (Leviathan Axe):
This ability summons a huge blizzard that keeps enemies at bay and stuns them. It has a large area of effect and can hit multiple enemies at once.
Meteoric Slam (Blades of Chaos):
This ability slams down meteors from the sky, dealing a ton of damage to groups of enemies.
The Finger of Ruin (Draupnir Spear):
This ability spins the spear in circles before launching a tornado that picks up enemies and slams them down, dealing crazy amounts of damage.
To unlock these abilities, you’ll need to find the Ravens scattered across the game world. It’s a bit tedious but finding them all is well worth it if you want the best abilities for your weapons.
Hilt of Týrfing
The Hilt of Týrfing relic charges a sword that sacrifices your health to deal damage based on how much health you lose. It’s a high-risk, high-reward relic. The longer you hold the activation, the more health it drains, but it outputs massive damage.
It has a quick cooldown of 30 seconds, so you can use it frequently. This is great for players who like to play a bit risky and trade health for high damage. It’s perfect for taking down large groups of enemies or dealing chunks of damage to bosses.
To get this relic, continue with the main story until you face an alpha werewolf-like monster. Once you kill it, gather the resources it drops and head to the nearest blacksmith to craft it.
Huldra Project #9
The Huldra Project #9 is another powerful relic that turns Mimir do a Bifrost blast that damages nearby enemies. It has a 206-second cooldown and deals condensed Bifrost damage to one or multiple targets. It’s especially useful for boss fights. You can unlock it late in the game by visiting a blacksmith once you’ve completed most of the story.
Hilt of Forsbrandr
The Hilt of Fórsbrandr relic pushes enemies back and gives you an aura of protection, creating a little force field that shields you from damage. It’s great for builds focused on staying alive during boss fights. To get this, you’ll need to open all the Raven chests. Afterward, you’ll face a mini-boss and defeating them will grant you the relic.
Rond of Obliteration
One of the hardest items to obtain in the game is the Rond of Obliteration, but it’s definitely worth the effort. To get this, you’ll need to defeat the final Valkyrie Queen, which is arguably the toughest boss in the game. Once you manage to beat her, you’ll unlock the relic.
When charged, it fires a volley of Valkyrie shards that deal Bifrost damage to enemies. This attachment is perfect for Bifrost builds or anyone who enjoys inflicting Bifrost damage.
Defeating the Valkyrie Queen also rewards you with one of the best runic summons for Freya, called Freya’s Roar. It allows Freya to slam down and apply a huge amount of Sonic or Hex to enemies, depending on her equipped runic arrows. Plus, you’ll unlock the Queen’s Armor for Freya, which is another great reward.
