Square Enix Presents Returning In February 2025!

Does Square Enix have sufficient projects going on to host their own showcase in a few months?

Since Square Enix did not appear at Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards 2024, rumors began to circulate regarding an upcoming event involving the company. That being said, rumors abound that Square Enix is preparing to host their own showcases, the first of which is scheduled for February. Fans are already concerned that there won't be enough games in 2025 from Square Enix, as the studio will have to reveal its plans for the year at some point. Therefore, it is quite rational for them to have an event in February.

Square Enix Presents, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, PC Port

Nevertheless, the rumor spread via a YouTube channel that is probably one of the most frequent in covering Square Enix titles. Even if they weren't confident of the event's validity and said the information originated from an anonymous source, I'll take their word for it in the end. Perhaps we might get an official notification in early February if it is really going to happen. But it's been quite some time since Square Enix had their own presentations, which were once called Square Enix Presents. So, Square Enix Presents may be making a glorious return.

To be honest, I don't believe this is entirely out of the question, but it may happen. The announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was actually made on Square Enix's own program. Not during a PlayStation event, not at State of Play, not at The Game Awards 2024, or anything like that; they showed us that preview trailer—if you recall that small teaser trailer they showed a while back—on their own. The first reveal really had place during a Square Enix conference. However, they did display games on other occasions thereafter.

The only two games currently set to appear in 2025 by Square Enix are the PC port of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, so news of a new project is sure to follow shortly. At Nintendo's first major software-focused direct for Switch 2, I wouldn't be surprised if they revealed anything from Team Asano or Dragon Quest. Even if it has been their plan for the last few years, returning to their own program would definitely be interesting.

Since Square Enix likes working with other studios on game co-developments, it's also likely that third-party studios are engaged in some of their other projects. Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito are collaborating on a game that isn't Nier, as Saito said in November 2023. He was hoping to display it this year, but it seems that won't be happening. The other project is probably Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster, as Jason Scherier has said explicitly that CS3 is working on it. However, Yoshi-P went on to clarify in a subsequent FFXIV live letter that they weren't really producing two games but rather that they were planning to reveal them pretty soon after that one interview in which they mentioned working on two projects.

This makes the fans wonder whether they are considering starting the Square Enix Presents again, maybe for Kingdom Hearts IV and presumably for their other forthcoming games as well. Without Final Fantasy XIV, and knowing that several of their lesser-budget AA games were axed, it wouldn't make sense. It has been discussed before that 2025 may be the year they unveil Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3. Whether or not it makes sense right now, this is definitely a spot where they could do it. During the presentation, they might showcase any number of their many upcoming releases and perhaps third-party developers who are involved with some of their other upcoming projects.

It seems like a reasonable move on their part, yet we can't verify the reliability of this source. But if the channel didn't believe this source, they probably wouldn't bring it up since they are, after all, one of the highest content producers of FF titles. I really hope it's true. I'm hoping that they do something significant since they are a beloved studio, home of several of my absolute favorite games.
