You can switch between Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Nightwing in Gotham Knights, but this option becomes available only after you complete a short section of the game. This guide explains when you gain access to character swapping and how the process works once the feature unlocks.
Accessing Character Switching
You can change heroes after you finish the first tutorial, Night Patrol, with your chosen character, which comes after the opening cutscenes. You stick with your first pick until the end of the first night in Gotham City. After that check, the game moves you to the Belfry during the day.

When you first enter the Belfme, most stations will be offline or unavailable. Character switching is not active at this stage. After completing your first night patrol, the feature activates, giving you full access to the hero selection area inside the base in Gotham Knights.
Switch Heroes
After the tutorial night, you can change characters by walking to the back-left area of the Belfry, where the suits for Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing are displayed. You only need to interact with the suit of the hero you want to use. This process becomes part of your routine before heading out for each night’s patrol.

Character Progress
Every hero gains experience at the same time, regardless of who you control. When one character levels up, the others do as well. After switching to another hero, you assign any unspent skill points to their individual skill trees. Because of this system, you can rotate characters whenever you want without losing progress in Gotham Knights.
Stay With One Character
Although switching is available each night, spending more time with one hero helps you complete the challenges connected to their Knighthood skill tree. These tasks are tied to each character and unlock abilities unique to them. Remaining with the same hero for several patrols can help you access this content more quickly.

Choosing the Right Hero
If you are unsure which character fits your preferred approach, you can consult a separate guide that outlines each hero’s abilities and play styles. This can help you decide which member of the team suits your goals before you begin your next patrol in Gotham City.
