Intel Arc B570 Performance on Older CPUs

Since their launch, Intel's Arc graphics cards have had a rough time. People liked them at first because they were cheap and worked well, but they also had concerns about driver stability and CPU load. While most tests focused on high-end processors, real-world speed on older CPUs told a different story.
This was fixed by Intel after months of driver updates, and the company claimed big performance gains. Now the focus is on how well the Arc B570 works with an older processor and whether it is still a good choice for a budget.

Intel Arc and Driver Overhead: A Brief History
Intel B580 was well-received at launch in December 2024 for its performance and price. Testing was mostly done on high-end processors, though. Driver overhead made performance substantially worse on older CPUs, such as the Ryzen 5600. Intel admitted there was a problem and worked on a fix, which was included in the Arc7028 driver. Hardware Unboxed says that a Ryzen 5600's performance could improve by as much as 45%. This made some wonder how Arc GPUs work with older processors now.
An Overview of the Test System
Intel Arc B570 worked with a Ryzen 3500X, a 6-core, 6-thread processor released in 2019. It doesn't have SMT, but it does have 32MB of L3 cache and can go from a base rate of 3.6GHz to 4.1GHz. The system had an ASUS TUF B550 motherboard, 16GB of Corsair 3200MHz RAM, with Resizable BAR turned on, which is important for Intel Arc performance. Testing was done on Windows 11, and all footage was recorded outside the Arc GPUs because they don't have built-in recording software.
Arc B570 used was the Sparkle Luna model, which cost $150 and came with Battlefield 6. It cost $40 to get the Ryzen 3500 X. We used slightly older Arc8136 drivers because installing newer ones was difficult.
How well does Fallout 4 run
Fallout4 ran well at 1080p with the Ultra preset. The system averaged 59.9 fps, with lows of 57.7 at 1% and 42.6 at 0.1%. The frame times were stable, and the Arc B570 and Ryzen 3500 X worked well together without any problems.
How well Spider-Man works
When the system was set to High at 1080p, and XeSS was targeted at 60 fps, it became CPU-bound. Ryzen 3500 X couldn't keep up, leading to stuttering and glitches. Arc B570 spent a lot of time waiting for the CPU. The average frame rate was 57.4 fps, with 1% lows at 27.8 fps and 0.1% lows at 4.4 fps.
How well does Red Dead Redemption2 work?
At 1080p High, the game ran well in wide sections, getting 70–80 fps. But in locations like Valentine, the frame rate dropped significantly. Even on stronger CPUs, the same issue occurred, indicating a driver problem. There were also problems with the texture. It was possible to play, but performance was not always good in crowded areas.
How well RoboCop works
RoboCop played well at 1080p High using XeSS. The average frame rate was 82.4 fps, with 1% lows at 54.3 fps and 0.1% lows at 30 fps. The performance was the same as on computers with an RTX 3060 and a Core i5-14400F.
Improved Performance in GTA V
With ray tracing enabled and the Very High preset set to 1080p, the Ryzen 3500 X used almost all its power yet still worked well. The average frame rate was 102.8 fps, with 1% of frames dropping to 57.7 fps and 0.1% of frames dropping to 42.6 fps. Even though the CPU was slow, the game still ran smoothly.
How well Cyberpunk 2077 works
Cyberpunk 2077 ran smoothly at 1080p High with ray tracing and XeSS 2. The average frame rate was 76.1 fps, with lows of 54.3 fps for 1% of the time and 41.9 fps for 0.1% of the time. The Panam mission went off without a hitch, and the Ryzen 3500 X performed better than expected.
How well Counter-Strike2 works
At first, the game stuttered a little when played at 1080p on competitive settings, but it rapidly went away. Frame rates stayed above 150 fps for most of the session, so the experience was smooth after the first few minutes of jitters.
Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo Performance
With ray tracing and 1080p High, performance wasn't always good. The average was 89.1 fps, though the 1% and 0.1% lows showed stuttering due to CPU limits. A 60fps cap made things more stable, but the experience was still uneven.
How well Left4Dead2 works
At 1080p, Left4Dead2 ran well. The system averaged 266 fps, with lows of 137.8 fps for 1% of the time and 72.2 fps for 0.1% of the time. Intel GPUs can be inconsistent with older games; this one worked well.
How well Red Dead Redemption works
At 1080p High, open-world areas hit frame rates in the hundreds, but towns brought them down significantly. CPU limitations led to a significant drop in GPU utilization. The average was 99.2 fps, with 1% lows at 36.3 fps and 0.1% lows at 26.2 fps. The game was still playable, although it wasn't always the same.
Death Performance of Light
Performance differed due to CPU limits. When the CPU was under heavy load, GPU usage decreased, resulting in a drop in frame rate. The average was 117.8 fps, with 1% at 51.7 fps and 0.1% at 39.2 fps. The gameplay was playable, although it wasn't always the same.
The Definitive Edition of Dead Island Performance
Performance was good at 1080p with the highest settings. The system's average frame rate was 275.2 fps, with lows of 140 fps for 1% of the time and 105 fps for 0.1% of the time. The GPU was heavily used, which kept performance steady.

The Performance of the Precinct
At 1080p High, the performance was playable but not always smooth. The average frame rate was 50.6 fps, with 1% of the frames dropping to 33 fps and 0.1% dropping to 15.6 fps. There were substantial differences in frame time, which could be due to the driver's behavior.
Final Thoughts
There are times when the Ryzen 3500 X and Arc B570 don't work well together. Other games can't run because of CPU limits, but Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V do. Even though Intel changed the driver overhead, the Ryzen 3500 X still can't power the Arc B570 consistently. These days, faster CPUs make things run faster, so older computers make things move more slowly.
Because it comes with a game, the Arc B570 is a great deal at $150, but it can't reach its full potential because it has an old CPU. It's possible that the Arc B570 would work better with a newer chip, like the Ryzen 5700 X. This would make the experience more even.
