Path of Exile 2 Guide | How To Trade
Here's everything you need to know to get started on trading in Path of Exile 2
Game Guide by Ornstein on Dec 20, 2024
Trading is one of the most important features used to get around in Path of Exile 2: selling unwanted goods in return for something really valuable, tailored to the needs of a character. Since loot drops aren't class-specific, trade helps to balance this disparity between what you find and what your character needs.
You might be playing as a ranger and find that heavy armor or wands are often dropped instead of bows or quivers. Trade with other players; sometimes, you will get items to complete your build while providing them with what they're looking for.
Finding Things to Trade
Probably the easiest way to notice trade opportunities is to take a look at the in-game trade chat. Just as long as the trade tab is open, you will be able to see everything that other players post. If something catches your eye, you may want to approach a vendor and initiate some conversation on conditions.
If you're looking for something more specific, you can search through a lot of filter options on the official Path of Exile 2 trade site. You can search by item type, level, stat requirements, and even for a specific modifier. If you see an item that you want, just click the immediate whisper button and contact the seller immediately to let them know you are interested. The whole process is much easier than searching for it fully from in-game chat.
Performing a Trade
When you've agreed on terms with a seller, you and s/he need to finalize the transaction. You can either accept her/his invitation to a party or extend your invitation. Then, click the button in the top left corner of the seller's portrait to enter the seller's instance. Once that is done, right-click his portrait and choose the trade option.
Next, within the trade window, both players add items or currencies into their respective boxes. Hover over the other player's offer to confirm that everything is according to what was agreed upon, and then agree on the trade. When the deal has gone through, thank the player for the transaction. Basic civility goes a long way toward fostering good relationships within the community.
Listing Your Items to Trade
There are a couple of ways of selling your stuff. The quickest and easiest way is to use the trade chat. Computer: Mouse over an item you want to trade, then with Ctrl and Alt pressed, click to link the item in chat. On the console, you can pull up your inventory, hit the left trigger, mouse over the item, and then hold Square on PlayStation or X on Xbox to link it.
Expose the trade site for more visibility and flexibility. To post an item on sale here, you have to buy a premium stash tab from the in-game store. Once you are done creating a premium tab, put the items you want to sell in it, right-click on it, and put it to public. Put a fixed price, negotiable price, or individual price on each item. Right-click to set the price of an individual item in the stash.
Determining Item Values
Pricing items can be a little tricky, especially for newer players. Using the trade website's bulk item trading in order to determine market value is a good idea. If you want to know how many Regal Orbs are equal to one Exalted Orb, just find a trader who is trading Exalted Orbs and mention that you have Regal Orbs. That'll pop up active market rates, which you can use to competitively price your items.
Tips and Precautions
To avoid trading errors, keep the following in mind:
- Know your item modifiers: Modifications do not universally work across all equipment types. For instance, modifications relating to increased movement speed cannot be applied to gloves. Other resources, such as PoE2 databases, can be used to determine what modification can be applied to what object.
- Check the requirements. First, make sure what you're trading can be used by your character in terms of level, strength, intel, or dexterity. There is no sense in trading items that cannot be used.
Why Trading is Important
Trade will be very important in Path of Exile 2 since it will enable shaping your build and getting gear according to your style of play. You can simply sell everything that happens not to be needed for decent currency or other equipment.
Whether hunting for unusual modifiers or orbs of high value, trading will help enhance efficiency inside the game, besides taking one farther ahead with the right equipment to play. Mastering the art of trading will make your experience in Path of Exile 2 so much easier, and it will help you build a good character and unlock most of the game's wide potential.
