Returnal Guide | How to Fast Travel

Here's a guide on how to Fast Travel in Returnal.

In Returnal, repeat runs are part of normal progress. Death resets your run, moves the story forward, and teaches you how to handle new situations.

As you move through each area, you unlock tools that let you interact with places you passed earlier. When this happens, you may want to return to earlier rooms and start looking for a way to fast-travel in Returnal.

Fast Travel Structure

Fast travel in Returnal does not work through a standard map selection. You cannot open the map and instantly choose a destination. The game still provides a fast travel method, though it functions through specific devices found in each biome.

Types of Translocators

There are two forms of fast travel: the Translocator and the Proximity Translocator. Both devices transport you, but they operate differently in Returnal.

A Proximity Translocator moves you to another location within a short range. You can usually see the paired device from where you stand. Using it sends you directly to the linked spot.

A standard Translocator opens a list of every Translocator you have used in the current biome. After activating them, you can select any of those devices and travel to it immediately. In a biome such as the Overgrown Ruins, a run typically contains several of these devices, giving you coverage across the map.

Biome Limitations

Translocators only work in the area you are exploring at the moment. You can't move from one location to another. To get back to a different biome, use a Translocator to get to the door of the biome you're in now, then go through the portal that leads back to the first biome in Returnal.
