When you reach the Echoing Ruins, you encounter Hyperion, a boss that requires steady movement and awareness of several layered projectile patterns in Returnal.

Before starting the fight, you should raise your weapon proficiency and carry a tool like the Electropylon Driver, which applies continuous damage while you focus on avoiding Hyperion’s attacks. To progress through this encounter, keep your aim on the red point on Hyperion’s body.

Phase One

During the first phase, Hyperion remains at its coral-like organ and plays the Echoing Ruins theme while releasing groups of projectiles. Its opening attack is a rush of blue homing shots that must be dodged. These can trigger a Suit Malfunction if they hit, so you should move early to avoid them.

After this, Hyperion releases a ring of fire from the center of the arena that you must jump over. It then sends red and green orbs across both the ground and air in Returnal.

You can advance past the red orbs to reach a better position for firing at Hyperion. When you approach, Hyperion sweeps a purple laser across the arena, which must be jumped over.

From this point onward, Hyperion cycles through these patterns in quick succession until its first health bar is depleted.

Phase Two

The second phase continues the same structure as the end of the first, but Hyperion adds new sequences. One involves sending out large groups of blue orbs in steady waves. You can jump or duck below them, but you must also watch for the other orb patterns that fill the arena at the same time.

Hyperion also launches spirals of red orbs from the arena’s center. These spread outward and must be jumped over, and you need to plan your dodges while Hyperion mixes in other projectile variations in Returnal.

Phase Three

In the final phase, Hyperion releases all orb types at once, creating several overlapping patterns. One new pattern is a spiral of blue orbs fired upward that later drop to the ground, requiring you to track where they land.

Hyperion also sends plus-shaped waves of blue orbs while covering the ground with slow-moving red orbs that spread outward in Returnal.

At certain points, Hyperion dashes across the arena and traps you within vine walls. Inside this corridor, Hyperion fires projectiles in rotating patterns. Your approach here is to read the order of the incoming orbs and dodge each sequence without rushing your movement.
