This guide will show you the steps you take to complete the Vessel of Tomorrow quest in The Last Caretaker, covering each task from fueling the boat to powering it and preparing it for departure.

Refueling Boat With Diesel

You begin by handling the Diesel Engine requirement. Your first task is to refuel the boat using the nearby Diesel Tank. You move to the ship and locate the point where the Diesel Hose can be installed.

After picking up the hose, you return to the boat and attach it. Once connected, the fuel level starts increasing automatically until the tank fills in The Last Caretaker.

Repairing Diesel Engine

After setting the refueling in motion, you head downstairs to the Diesel Engine, which needs repair. You open your tool kit and take out your wrench.

Repairing the engine uses three Plastic and six Iron, and once you apply the materials, the engine is restored. At this point, the related optional task is complete, and the diesel continues to transfer into the boat.

Installing Engine Cylinder

Next, you reconnect an Engine Cylinder to the Diesel Engine. The cylinder is the large, round component you see nearby. You lift it, carry it to the engine, and position it over the open slot before dropping it. The cylinder installs itself automatically, completing the requirement.

Charging Boat With Electricity

When the mechanical components are complete, you move on to powering the boat. You take one end of a cable and connect it to a Battery, then bring the other end to the boat’s input and plug it in.

The charge begins transferring but stops once the battery runs out, as there is not enough stored power to charge the boat in The Last Caretaker.

You can use multiple small batteries to finish the job, but if they do not provide sufficient power, you can instead route electricity from the Solar Panels located on the roof.

You follow the existing cable up to the broken connection, then plug the loose end into the functioning port to restore the line. With that link established, you head back downstairs to extend the cable route toward the boat.

Extending Cable Route

If you have reached Level 2 and unlocked the ability, you use an Electric Cable Extender to lengthen the connection. You build additional extenders, each requiring one Plastic and one Iron.

You place them along the path—from the upper platform, down the ladder, and toward the boat—until the cable reaches the final connection point near the dock in The Last Caretaker.

Once you connect the last length of cable to the boat’s power input, the remaining charge begins transferring. This completes the charging requirement and fills the boat’s energy bar.

Opening Bay Doors

With the fuel and power tasks done, you proceed to open the bay. You go upstairs to the switch that controls the Bay Doors and activate it. The doors then move open, clearing the exit route.

Departing With Boat

You return to the boat without disconnecting the cables, board it, and climb to the wheel. You interact with the control, press the command to raise the Anchor, and steer forward.

As the boat moves, the optional tasks may show as incomplete because fuel and electricity are being consumed, but they reset once you exit the facility in The Last Caretaker.

When you guide the boat through the opened doors and move out of the structure, the quest completes.
