When you begin Program X, you’ll immediately notice that it introduces several difficulty modifiers that alter how each trial plays out. These modifiers change the structure of the mission by adjusting enemy behavior, trap placements, and available resources.

Understanding how each modifier affects your experience will help you plan your approach more effectively and prevent early failures. You can view all active modifiers for a trial from the selection screen before starting.

Stronger Enemies

The Stronger Enemies modifier increases the overall damage output of every hostile entity you encounter. Each enemy becomes significantly more dangerous, dealing nearly double the damage compared to standard trials.

Under this modifier, even common encounters can become difficult to manage if you approach them carelessly. Maintaining awareness and using the environment to your advantage is essential when facing this condition.

Maximum Threat

The Maximum Threat modifier increases the population of enemies across the map. You will encounter roughly three times as many hostiles as usual, with a higher number of special enemies such as Berserkers and Night Vision Grunts.

This modifier changes the flow of movement and makes stealth much more difficult to maintain. Expect more patrols and overlapping enemy routes throughout each zone.

Dangerous Prime Assets

The Dangerous Prime Assets modifier applies a one-hit knockdown effect from prime assets such as Mother Gooseberry and Leland Coyle. Any direct contact with these enemies can end a run instantly if you are cornered or have limited space to maneuver.

When this modifier is active, maintaining distance and planning escape routes becomes critical for survival.

Naked And Afraid

The Naked And Afraid modifier removes most items from the map and disables your rig. This condition appears in only one Program X trial and significantly limits your available tools.

When entering this trial, you will receive a Large Battery, Large Medicine, and an Antidote, which must last for the entire mission. You can still obtain small rewards such as batteries from disarming door traps, but overall item availability remains minimal.

Resource management and efficient use of supplies determine how far you can progress under this modifier.

Gates Lockdown

When the Gates Lockdown modifier is active, gates around the map will automatically seal once you are spotted by enemies. This restricts access to certain routes and forces you to take alternative paths through enemy-occupied zones.

The modifier disrupts planned shortcuts and increases travel time, often requiring you to adapt your strategy mid-run to find safe routes to objectives.

Limited Hidespots / Items

The Limited Hidespots / Items change lowers the map's amount of hidden spots and tools that can be used. This makes it harder to avoid being caught or get back resources.

With fewer options for concealment and item discovery, players must rely more on timing, teamwork, and efficient pathing to complete objectives without detection.

These modifiers represent the main changes you’ll face in Program X. While some only slightly increase the challenge, others like Dangerous Prime Assets and Naked And Afraid can cause mission failure within moments if handled poorly.

Recognizing their impact before starting a trial allows you to prepare accordingly and make tactical decisions that improve your chances of survival.
