Fishing in Throne and Liberty is a rewarding and relaxing activity that can provide valuable resources. A completely optional side-activity, you can use the fish for a myriad of purposes. This comprehensive guide will delve into the mechanics, strategies, and rewards associated with fishing in the game.

Throne and Liberty, Fishing Guide

Starting out

First, you need to buy a fishing rod through a Contract Coin merchant or unlock it via the main story. Regardless, once you get your hands on a Fishing Rod and some Bait, you can get started. There are differing qualities of fishing rods, which affect different stats that ultimately let you fish for bigger catches and do it faster as well.

Once you find a body of water, you cast your fishing line by pressing whatever hotkey you have it on while you have the item equipped. You also need some bait, which you can purchase from contract coin shops or find as loot. Once a fish bites in, you get a prompt and have to press a button right away to hook it; otherwise, the fish will steal the bait and swim away.

If you do it in time, two bars will show up, denoting the fish's stamina [the orange bar] and your stamina [the green bar].  The fish will try and swim in a certain direction, left or right, and you have to press the corresponding button for the opposite direction, so A or D. Keep an eye on your stamina bar and make sure you don't lose all your stamina.

Your fishing skill determines your proficiency in landing fish. As you gain experience, you'll unlock new abilities and perks, such as increased reeling speed, reduced line breakage, and the ability to catch rare fish. Of course, as you catch more fish, you will get the hang of it yourself, so in no time, you'll become a pro.

Fishing Rewards

Fish can be used for various purposes, including crafting, cooking, and trading. Some fish are rare and valuable, while others are more common. The higher your fishing skill, the easier it is for you to get those rare fishes. Completing fishing-related quests and achievements can reward you with unique items, titles, and reputation gains.

You will also sometimes find sacks, which might contain crafting materials for your fishing rods, Material Fragments, and Sollant.

Tips & Tricks

The more you fish, the better you'll become. Experiment with different techniques and strategies to find what works best for you. High-quality bait can significantly increase your chances of catching larger and rarer fish. You can most bait from the Contract Coin Merchant, but you will encounter others throughout the game. Shrimp Bait is dropped by a few Crustacean-themed monsters, such as the Chestaceans, Hermit Lobsters, and Crabs and Sea Crabs, who are in-between levels 30-40. Remember the spot you are fishing in, as some areas are generally better than others.

You can upgrade your fishing rods by crafting them through Melissa in Stonegard Castle. The fishing rods available as of writing are:

Bambo Fishing Rod
Steel Fishing Rod
Monster Bone Fishing Rod
Trevent Fishing Rod

By following these tips and strategies, you can become a skilled angler in Throne and Liberty and enjoy the rewards that come with it. Happy fishing!
