One of the most famous RPGs from the 2000s is officially coming back, but this time, it looks better on modern systems. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which came out in 2006, is getting a full remaster. Bethesda hasn't said anything official about it yet, but a reliable leak has pretty much confirmed it.

Virtuos is a development studio that is known for working on many remaster projects in the gaming industry. The news got out through a leak on their official website. The leaked pictures and information went live for a short time before being taken down. Fans quickly grabbed them, and they have since been shared widely on social media sites and forums like ResetEra.

The leak included comparison shots that showed how much the graphics have improved between the original game and the remastered version. Even though some of the images aren't very good, it's easy to see how the lighting, textures, and character details have improved. These assets make me think of a remaster that updates the game's look while keeping its main look and gameplay.

It was leaked that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In addition to the standard edition, a digital deluxe version is said to be in the works. This edition will have extra in-game content like unique weapons and armor, as well as a funny nod to the history of video games: the famous Horse Armor DLC, which was one of the first and most talked-about examples of paid cosmetic content back in the day.

Jeff Grubb, who works in the industry, says that the remaster is likely to come out during the week of April 21, 2025. This means that the possible release is only a few days away. Some small changes that have been seen recently on the Oblivion Steam page match up with this timeline. Notably, a number of trailers and other media files were quietly taken down from the store listing. This is often a sign that a new version or major update is about to be released.

There were rumors earlier that the remaster might be rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, but that hasn't been proven. Still, it's not clear if the game has been rebuilt using new technology or just improved using Bethesda's own engine. For now, the leak only proves that the remaster exists and that it will work and have the same content as the original.

After its 2006 release, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was a major RPG. When it first came out on PC, Xbox 360, and later PlayStation 3, the game set new standards for open-world exploration, story depth, and player agency. Players could explore a huge fantasy world with deep dungeons, changing factions, and a rich main storyline about stopping the damage that the Oblivion gates were causing.

Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles, two major add-ons for the game, came out and were later included in the Game of the Year edition. The leaked materials don't say for sure if these add-ons will come with the remaster, but most people think they will, especially in the deluxe edition.

If you're a longtime fan who spent a lot of time in the Imperial City and beyond, or if you missed the game the first time around, this remaster could be the best way to play one of Bethesda's most popular RPGs. The remastered Oblivion is ready to bring an old favorite back to life for a new generation of gamers, with improved graphics and performance for modern systems.

Since a possible release date is approaching quickly, an official announcement from either Bethesda or Virtuos will be forthcoming soon. Fans will be able to play again or discover a game that helped shape the modern open-world RPG anytime until then.
