For a long time, The Witcher 4 has been one of the most anticipated RPG sequels in development. However, recently, it has become the target of a growing scam that takes advantage of excited fans. CD Projekt Red, the company that made the series, has reported fraudulent emails and social media posts claiming to offer access to a beta test for the new game to the community.

They said in a post on the official Witcher account on X (which used to be Twitter) that any messages or emails asking people to test Witcher 4 right now are fake. The studio says that there is currently no beta. What the developers said: "People in the community have been telling us that they were invited to a beta test for The Witcher 4. It's a scam. We're working to get rid of this kind of messaging, but if you see it, please let us know."

The studio added a fun but serious note to fans, writing: "Don't forget that real monster killers don't fall for scams." They can see right through them and kill them. They made it clear that any real information about testing opportunities or game updates will only be shared through official CD Projekt Red channels, like their website or social media accounts.

Now that the warning is over, the game can begin. The Witcher 4 was shown for the first time at The Game Awards in December 2024. The teaser trailer didn't show much in terms of visual or gameplay details, but it did show a big change in the story: Ciri will become the main character.

People who played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will remember Ciri as a strong and popular character. But this is the first time she will be the main character of the series. The change is a big departure from the series' longtime main character, Geralt of Rivia, who has been the main character in all previous books.

Naturally, this change has caused fans to talk about it and, in some places, be worried about it. Geralt's character has become famous thanks to the books by Andrzej Sapkowski that inspired him and the years of games that followed. A lot of people think of Geralt when they think of The Witcher.

In a recent interview with Video Games Chronicle (VGC), Philip Weber, narrative director at CD Projekt Red, talked about the choice. He admitted that changing his name from Geralt to Ciri wasn't an easy choice and that he didn't think everyone would agree with him at first.

Weber said, "I think we knew for sure that it could be controversial for some people." "Geralt was the main character in the first three Witcher games." I loved playing as him in the game, and I'm sure everyone else did, too. Weber made it clear, though, that this was part of a long-term creative plan and not a last-minute change.

"We want the players to see that Ciri is more than just a fill-in." She does bring something fresh and interesting to the table. It's understandable if people still want to play as Geralt. It's our job to show that Ciri can be just as interesting, if not more so, than the main character. The team working on the game wants to look into Ciri's special abilities, personal growth, and new story possibilities. These could help the franchise grow while staying true to its fantasy roots.

The Witcher 4

At this point, there aren't many official details about The Witcher 4. There is no set release date, and the game's mechanics have not been shown off yet. We do know, though, that Unreal Engine 5 is being used to make the game, which means that both the graphics and the ability to build worlds are much better.

In addition, CD Projekt Red has said that they are learning from the good and bad things that have happened in the past, especially the rough start to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. They want to make the next game in the series better polished and more immersive.

Fans can't wait for more information, but CD Projekt Red wants everyone to be careful with fake invitations and unofficial news. When the time is right, any beta or demo periods will be made public and easy to find. For now, work is still going on with The Witcher 4, and excitement is steadily growing. With Ciri taking center stage and new technology shaping the game's design, the follow-up promises both story and technical progress for the series.
