Titanfall 2's Single-Player Trailer Analyzed
What's new in Titanfall 2's single player campaign?
by Grayshadow on Jun 12, 2016
The latest trailer for Titanfall 2's single-player features a brand new take on the campaign. Unlike Titanfall the sequel won't feature a series of multiplayer matches with stale dialogue, instead it's a full single-player experience equipped with an actual story. So what can we expect Titanfall 2's campaign?
Titan Pilot Connection
In the first game Pilots are able to call-in Titans causally, simply wait for the prompt to trigger and call in your Titan. Titanfall 2's campaign removes this meaningless connection between Titans and Pilots and instead establishes a profound connection between the two.
BT7274 the star of Titanfall 2's trailer highlights this connection and his new link to Rifleman Jack Cooper. We also learn that Titans follow a specific protocol:
1. Link to Pilot
2. Uphold the Mission
3. Protect the Pilot
If Respawn hopes to fully develop this unique bond between Pilot and Titan we will need to control this Titan for most of the campaign. Judging from the trailer BT and Cooper will have this special bond. In one scene Jack calls out to BT for help and in other we see BT in critical condition with Jack looking back worried at his Titan.
Wildlife Battles
Wildlife was present in Titanfall but never played an active role in combat. You could shoot them and score points or see them in the distance, but mostly they were there for show. In the trailer we see not only new machinary being used but creatures ready to attack.
Melee Combat
The first trailer for Titanfall 2 revealed a giant sword, basically confirming that melee combat is planned for the game. This is the first time we see how this giant sword would work against Titan's totting heavy guns. First off the sword can be used to block and reflect bullets back, perform heavy swings, and finish Titans off by plunging the weapon into the gutt of the robot. It was also shown that BT will have the ability to charge forward, quickly dodge oncoming fire without dashing left and right, and tackle Titans to the ground. Whether this will translate to multiplayer is yet to be seen but nevertheless it was awesome.
Titanfall 2 will launch on October 28th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
