Will Sony Remaster The Entire Resistance Series?
Sony's PlayStation Plus cleanup: Resistance games disappear, PS3 emulator rumors spark hope for the future.

Sony has just revealed another PlayStation Plus cleanup next month, similar in some ways to what was done in May 2024. This time, they're also removing a few PS3 games from PlayStation Plus Premium, in addition to 22 games from Classics, PS4, and PS5. That's already a bummer; this only makes things worse.
Two of those PS3 titles, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, are totally unplayable on PS5 and PS4 after May 20th, 2025. These games were only offered via PlayStation Plus Premium as part of the streaming service; you could not purchase or download them like you could with PS1 and PS2 games.
Moreover, given their November 2024 introduction, they will have been present for only six months prior to vanishing. You won't be able to play them at all on current consoles after that. (FYI, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will still be available on Premium for now). This action follows Sony's price increases for the three PlayStation Plus levels in several regions.
Though some fans wish Sony were making room for good ports or remasters of these games onto PS5 and PS4, let's face it—that may be just wishful thinking. Honestly, I got it when I saw one of my senior colleagues talk about a potential Resistance remaster or the possibility of Resistance 4. Other series have taken us here before.
The Sly Cooper games are among the ones on PlayStation Now. Sony removed and subsequently reinstated them last year, streaming-only, on the occasion of the series' 20th anniversary. This seemed more like a case of "take it out, put it back" than anything of value.
As with Deadzone, even though those games were also formerly available on PlayStation Now, their 20th anniversary last year passed unnoticed and unremarkable. Although we didn't have a completely remastered Sly Cooper, the trilogy was released on PS5 last year. Though it is not a remaster, the game plays natively on PS5, which is fantastic because it runs more smoothly and appears sharper than the originals.
Regarding Resistance, fans would not expect a total remaster. Although Sony is reportedly developing a PS3 emulator for the PS5, rumors are circulating. If that's true, and given Sony's shifting focus away from the PS4 next year, we might see many PS3 games appear on PlayStation Plus or even become available for purchase in the store.
Perhaps the emulator will finally be released in 2026, much like Nintendo's treatment of GameCube games on the Switch. I certainly hope so! We would like to see a total remaster of the entire Resistance line and Killzone, but Sony does not appear to be taking that path anytime soon.
