Make a resident that looks clear, expressive, and easy to build around.

A good Mii is more than just a pretty face in the editor. It needs to read well in scenes on the island, stand out in crowds, and still feel natural when people react up close. The best creations start with the shape of the face and then add hair, colors, and a simple idea for a personality.

First, make sure the face is right

Most of the work is done by the base face shape. Before you start working on the smaller details, pick a face that fits the character. Your eyes, eyebrows, and mouth should help that shape, not fight it.

Use a few strong details instead of a lot of them

It's easier to see a clean Mii in fast scenes. Choose one or two features that stand out, and then keep the rest in balance. Once the Mii starts moving around the island, heavy stacking can make the design look messy.

Make the look fit the role

Before the first interaction, a Mii should already feel funny, dramatic, calm, or stylish. The look, the voice, and the behavior should all point in the same direction so that the resident feels at home as soon as they move in.
