This time I’ve picked 10 games that you won’t regret buying, ever. Not only in terms of gameplay, but story and presentation wise they worth every penny you spent on them. Let’s not waste time and check out the top 10 games you can buy without hesitation.
10. Metro: Last Light
While the broken tunnels of Metro: Last Light only offer a short ride, it will be such an intense experience that anything else would feel like too much of a good thing. Cleverly explored gameplay elements compliment an atmosphere that drowns players in the atrocity of a nuclear holocaust. Despite having too many issues, this shooter wades its way through the filth and overcomes, by providing something unlike any of its peers and by opening up from there. Beauty from tragedy; it may be as poetic as the book it spawned from, in a sense.
09. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale
PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale certainly isn't shy about making its inspirations known, but frankly, I'm surprised a game like this didn't happen sooner. Sony is massing quite the managerie of characters to create some charmingly wacky match-ups (seeing Kratos be beat senseless by someone as seemingly harmless as Parappa is a delight), and so far the game looks to be shaping up nicely.
08. Fallout 3: Game of The Year Edition
Fallout 3 is a deep and immersive role-playing game with an unprecedented amount of detail put into the setting of post-apocalyptic Washington DC. With the V.A.T.S. system and your handy Pip-Boy 3000, you'll spend countless hours exploring the wastes and the secrets it holds. This is one gem of a videogame that no gamer can afford to miss.
07. Resident Evil 6 Archives
Resident Evil 6 is one of the best looking and atmospheric third-person shooter this year and the multiple campaigns do a great job of telling a story of a global biochemical disaster. Throughout your global journey you will be sent to a series of gorgeous locations with some impressive enemies to fight using an array of new equipment and techniques. These 20+ hours of gameplay definitely hits a lot of highs during each of the campaigns and also maintain a high level of quality. Resident Evil 6 is a collection of great action sequences and excellent production elements. It’s a game that takes this series one step forward.
06. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Game of the Year Edition
With Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Naughty Dog returns to deliver an adventure that touches the quality standards already achieved in Uncharted 2. It returns to enhance the quality of cinematic storytelling, making a guiding element of realism to the entire experience. Sure, there’s no significant change to the formula, but it is still a superb experience.
05. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria
Good quests, zone design, artwork, and new features are the strong point of this expansion. Those who want an interesting leveling experience, colorful zones and dungeons, and new lore will not be disappointed by this expansion. Compared to the sometimes dull and rehashed zones in Cataclysm, the new zones are a breath of fresh air that harken back to the zone design of WotLK. The accompanying music has an appropriate oriental feel mixed with the old school tunes of Warcraft 3, which they seem to be trying to bring back in to the game. I thought the pet battles would be a somewhat amusing side feature, and was surprised to learn how in-depth they went in to creating that system and its content. If you liked Pokémon, you'll probably get some fun out of the pet battle system. Don't look for the same amount of depth, however. The pandas have an interesting and sometimes amusing story.
04. Darksiders II
Darksiders II may take a few notable pages on how to create a memorable adventure from Legend of Zelda times, but how bad is that really? In fact, with so many games doing the same and so little pulling it off, it’s remarkable that THQ’s saving gravedigger does so well and distinguishes itself from all other titles it mimics. Creating an engaging and gratifying tale that stays entertaining for dozens of hours is more than enough to make it overcome other discretion. This game is one for the ages.
03. Battlefield 3 Premium Edition
Battlefield 3 is amazing. The single player might not be much and the co-op might be a little short, but everyone buying this game knows (or should know) that the multiplayer is the star of the show. And the multiplayer delivers. More than deliver, it excels and raises the bar on multiplayer shooters yet again. At the time of writing, there were a few minor issues with one or two maps, but developer DICE has already promised multiple patches to fix and balance the game. Battlefield 3 shows that military shooters are not the problem, they just have to be done right. And boy does Battlefield 3 know how to do it right.
02. Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 3 is a fantastic game that even with its flaws delivers one of the most elaborate and emotional experiences. Though Mass Effect 3 shooting mechanics are great it is the deep story and hard choices that truly make this game that makes you care about its universe and the future of the people who inhabit it. Mass Effect 3 isn’t a perfect game but it is one of the greatest titles to this date that ends with what you wanted it to be.
01. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
A wonderful resurrection of a neglected genre, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is simultaneously a breath of fresh air and a nod to a time when games were designed to be fun, not to extract money from customers in an endless parade of overpriced DLC. There are no horrible micro-transactions, no stupid online requirements, just good old-fashioned fun. A full game at a fair price, I can't say enough about how refreshing that feels! The gameplay could be a bit more developed, XCOM could use more tactical options, and less streamlining. But given the shortage of good turn based games, this one is a true gem.
As always I hope you like playing these games as much as I did. Happy gaming and Merry Christmas!
