What Is Your Rocket League Team The Worst At?

After almost 200 hours of Rocket League, it’s safe to say that we’ve seen quite a few things in the game. From high-flying acrobats to downright inexplicable ball physics, a round of car football is never really the same. There are, however, some points that have persisted amongst almost any and all squads. Sometimes, team members just fail the collective and blame is often passed around. So, instead of doing that in-game, where it demotivates the team spirit, we’re opening the board here to ask once and for all:

What is your Rocket League team the worst at?

We’ll chip in what we think is the one flaw no one picks up on: Situational awareness.

A lot of times, people blame others for not defending, getting in the way, shoving and so on, but those are more results of a less visible issue. People just don’t know where they should position themselves. Often enough, two cars will be on exactly the same trajectory, only to see that the third one is closing in to the same area. That means that the team’s coverage is limited to that one small spot, leaving room for error wide open.

Ideally, a team wants to cover a spread; front, center and back, depending on who is moving towards what spot. Naturally, the dynamic changes to where the opponent is and how the ball is acting change this setup constantly, but that’s just the basic concept. Any one team member should be able to grab the ball at any time, but not every car needs to go for every ball, every time.

Really, Rocket League is not that far removed from actual football, since the base principles of the sport still apply. It’s still a good tactic to catch cars at their counter footing, switching play from one side to the other. Similarly, it’s possible to fake out opponents, coercing them to jump or turn. A high cross in the box is still a dangerous thing to handle and counters in Rocket League are some of the most brutal plays in all sports.
