Top 10 Upcoming AAA Games

AAA games have been going a little under the radar lately, but because of a certain Rockstar Games title finally offering content, things have been looking a little more interesting lately for other games of that caliber.

Here is a list of projects I believe we need to keep an eye on.
 

 

Grand Theft Auto VI

Developer: Rockstar Games
Release Date: Fall 2025

Information about Grand Theft Auto VI, which has been in development for quite some time, have been kept secret by Rockstar Games, but the trailer has finally dropped. That aside, I think we can all attest to the fact how much chaos just the title itself brings. So, anticipate the mayhem that has become synonymous with Grand Theft Auto, with our Bonnie and Clyde inspired protagonists.

A lot of the game’s locations are clearly heavily inspired by Miami, Florida. We all know the memes, so it is safe to say that the trailer did a great job at portraying the type of people we hear about on the news that inhabit the state.

It feels unreal that the decade-long wait is finally over and I do not think Grand Theft Auto VI needs much more to describe it. You know it, you want it. 
 

 

Black Myth: Wukong

Release Date: August 20, 2024

The Internet has gone crazy with the revelation of Black Myth: Wukong, and anticipators know that this game is definitely one to witness.

From the time I was a little kid, the tale of the Monkey King has held me in captivation. A deep itch in my head is being scratched by witnessing its fruition into reality.

Based on the classic Chinese tale, Journey to the West, this action RPG known as Black Myth: Wukong lets you play as the legendary Monkey King with its breath-taking graphics and epic boss battles. However, there is reason to believe that the game’s narrative will stray from the legend foretold.
 

 

Gears of War: E-Day

Developer: The Coalition
Release Date: 2025, or early 2026

Providing a new angle on the legendary franchise, Gears of War: E-Day propels players to the start of the Locust War. It is set as a prequel to the established setting – throwing the player back fourteen years.

More riveting storytelling, fierce firefights, and deadly melee action are on the horizon than what fans of the Gears series have come to expect, with you playing the role of a young Marcus Fenix. But what makes it even better? Dominic Santiago is also making a return since he was last seen in the 2011 game.

Any fan would be eager to learn more about how the battle began. And despite it not being a numbered title, you can remain confident that it will deliver in every way possible.
 

 

Monster Hunter: Wilds

Developer: Capcom
Release Date: Early 2025

Continuing the beloved Monster Hunter collection, the most recent installment of Monster Hunter: Wilds claims to bring fresh beasts, weaponry, and landscapes to the table, while maintaining the enticing gameplay mechanics with intriguing new elements.

Having a look at the trailer, it is obvious that they focused more on the gameplay aspect than the character animations – the characters still feel stiff when conversing in cutscenes, whereas the action-driven segments of the game far surpass the previous Monster Hunter titles.

After devoting a considerable amount of time to Monster Hunter: Rise, I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new obstacles Wilds has in store.
 

 

Last Sentinel

Developer: Lightspeed LA
Release Date: TBA

Playing Last Sentinel will transport you to a post-apocalyptic world with hints of cyberpunk, teeming with peril and mystery. Unfortunately, there is not much else we can go off of other than the incredible reveal trailer.

In this science-fiction world, we are met with frantic children from what we can only assume is an orphanage, all bunched up in a corner, avoiding whatever being out there is trying to get in. A woman does her best to protect the children, but is later killed. To the viewer, it is clear that she was an android with the revelation of metal under her facial features.

From what I gather, it combines survival mechanics with its seemingly profound storyline, and the foundation looks strong. 
 

 

State of Decay 3

Developer: Undead Labs
Release Date: TBA

New and enhanced visuals, more in-depth gameplay features, and even more horrifying zombies are on the way for State of Decay 3, the latest instalment in the zombie survival series.

As far as the series is concerned, this game is the finest one thus far. What I love about the State of Decay series is its focus on community rather than the utter despair of making it out alone. You and your fellow survivors will band together to construct a settlement, gather resources, and weather any storm.

Being a fan of the zombie-survival trope, I miss the activity of this theme in media lately. Having really enjoyed the first two games in the series, I am dying to see how the developers take the idea and run with it once more.
 

 

Death Stranding 2

Developer: Kojima Productions
Release Date: 2025

Following up on the ground-breaking structure and story of Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima returns with Death Stranding 2. We are promised another memorable experience in this sequel, as one could tell upon watching the trailer.

In the reveal trailer, we got reintroduced to Fragile and Baby Lou who could be two years old now. We witness their bunker attacked and Baby Lou gone as a consequence. Higgs also returns with his electrifying guitar destroying foes left and right. Expect more of that signature Kojima eccentricity.

The first Death Stranding took the world by storm during the pandemic era, and with the current state of still picking up the pieces from back then, it is quite intriguing to wonder where the fate of this franchise lies.
 

 

Fable

Developer: Playground Games
Release Date: 2025

Playground Games' much-loved Fable series is making a triumphant comeback in 2025, alongside the assist from the person who was in charge of combat designs of The Witcher games.

Fans old and new may look forward to this Fable reboot's promise to bring back the whimsical charm of its predecessors, while also adding features that will appeal to a wider audience. We know that choices are prevalent throughout the series, to see who we become by the end of each game.

So, with the introduction of a retired Humphrey telling tales of a hero he once raised and how she made all the wrong choices, there is reason to believe the most important choices will come back and tie in with him. There is a pinch of regret in his words, perhaps hinting at the story this Fable title has to tell.

My heart leaps with joy at the revival of the Fable series, which has always held a special place in my heart. I am just really looking forward to returning to Albion.
 

 

Dune: Awakening

Release Date: Late 2024

Set in the renowned Dune universe, Dune: Awakening is a massively multiplayer online survival game, with its epic plot and sophisticated survival mechanisms. 

Arakkis is a planet housing a scorching desert like no other. I think most fans will enjoy the fact that they can create their own character to roam this world. You may even build your own base it seems, really just ticking off the two major things any The Sims player would love. Building things also extends to your vehicles.

Playing this game will whisk you off your feet and carry you into Dune, whether you are a lover of the novels, the films, or both. The prospect of delving so deeply into Arakkis should be really thrilling to any lifelong enthusiast.
 

 

Silent Hill 2

Release Date: October 8, 2024

Fans have been waiting for an extended period of time for the remake of Silent Hill 2. With improved visuals and gameplay, Konami is re-releasing the iconic psychological-horror game. Get ready to go back to the haunting town of Silent Hill and relive the terrifying tale from the perspective of James Sunderland.

Silent Hill 2 is going to get rid of its fixed camera angles and opt for a more modernized gameplay experience, everything else will stay more or less the same, with Konami ensuring that the remake will remain faithful to the original.

It will be interesting to see how they modernize the classic Silent Hill 2 for the current crop of gamers since it is among the finest horror games of all time.

All I can say to conclude this list is for AAA gamers to prepare their wallets. From here on, to the year 2025, there is a lot in store.
