Developer Codemasters has announced a soundtrack for their latest racing game, Dirt 5. While the franchise is usually focused on more rally gameplay, this will have some songs to accompany the action, rather than just the usual co-pilot banter. There are 40 musical tracks announced, which are available on Spotify.
Admittedly, the list isn't the worst possible selection of artists. Notable names include Pearl Jam, Stormzy, The Killers and The Prodigy, though not with their classic hits. Additionally, Codemasters partnered with Universal Music UK to bring new songs to Dirt 5, from artists such as Sea Girls, Broken Witt Rebels, High Contrast, NOISY, KOKO, Prospa and Saronde. These are said to be exclusive tracks, made for the game.
While not every genre is represented equally, it is good to see Codemasters take some care into putting a soundtrack together. Usually, the main Dirt games play it pretty straight, with more frivolity being kept for offshoots like Dirt Showdown. A nice playlist can make a game ten times more memorable. And while some more metal or something similar like that would've been nice, a racing game only needs one or two real bangers. Just ask anyone who played a Burnout game what their favorite song is and why it's Avril Lavigne.
Dirt 5 will be out on October 16, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Those who purchase the Amplified Edition of the game will be able to get access three days before launch. PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X versions will follow later in the year. More so, Dirt 5 supports Smart Delivery and will also include a free upgrade for anyone moving over to PS5. Google Stadia will also be a platform for Dirt 5, but will fall into 2021.
