Sometimes very strange news gets announced in the gaming world, and this is an especially strange one as BloodPop, a musician, songwriter, and producer, has started his own game studio that has already attained funding. This new studio, named GenPop Interactive, will also be a AAA studio that produces games that will seemingly focus on fashion, music, and gaming culture.
BloodPop, who has collaborated with musicians like Lady Gaga, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, and John Legend, has placed the predominant focus of this new studio’s games on a Gen-Z audience. The first game that this new studio develops will be a third-person shooter that, according to GenPop Interactive, makes use of unique movement and combat mechanics. All of this may seem quite strange, but the studio has veteran developers who have worked on games like Halo Infinite, Call of Duty, and Minecraft. So, there is a lot of talent in this newly formed company.
It also appears that BloodPop himself will be both the CEO and game director of this new studio. He also stated that the major gaming companies in the modern era do not speak to Gen-Z, and that these companies treat their old IPs as if they’re a form of “publicly traded necromancy.” So, that may be an indication of a few shots fired.
GenPop Interactive has also already managed to raise $6.5 million in initial funding, and it has also managed to enlist Studio Trigger, the company best known for anime productions like Kill la Kill and the recent Cyberpunk: Edgerunners adaptation. So, not only does the company seemingly have access to a decently sized team full of veteran developers, but it has also managed to get the help of one of the best animation studios in the business.
We do not have any additional information about what this company’s first game will be, but you can check out its website for updates. There is even the option to sign up as a play tester for the game that GenPop proclaims as the “next generation of shooters.” Such lofty claims will have to proven in future, but it should be interesting to see what comes out of this dose of new blood into the gaming industry.
